It was odd that I watched Keith Allen interviewing Keith Floyd last night and then finding he died today.

I first remember Floyd on Fish in about 1985 and loved it, it made me want to cook stuff and I still enjoy it today. I met him about 20 years ago and he was ace;

Floyd on Fish had a soundtrack by a Leeds band called Pink Peg Slax. I didn't know this until I saw the Pogues in March 1985 who were supported by PPS. I was so impressed I went out and bought the album Belting out a Tuna. The sleeve notes were written by Keith Floyd.

Advance a few years and he was doing a signing session in Newcastle, I took along my copy of belting out a Tuna.

Me: Are you just signing your book? KF: No, I'll sign anything you want.

I pull the album from a carrier bag.

KF: Ah! My favourite band

Someone from Waterstones asked if they were a local band, we both tell him no and I mumble something about Leeds.

Keith Floyd signs my album and illustrates it with a half full cocktail glass, after a brief chat I slope off and leave him to his wine. He was ace.

You never felt he was doing anything other than being himself. And he got paid for it. If that's not something to aspire to then I don't know what is.

My favourite Floydie quote is when asked what his preferred wine was, he replied 'the one in the largest glass' :lol:

The programmes were essential viewing in my house. They were so shambolic and you never knew what the hell was going to happen next. Brilliant.

Couldn't believe it this morning.I only watched the interview last night with him and Keith Allen.A top programme.

KEITH ALLEN " So what do you think of the current set of TV chefs?" KEITH FLOYD " They're all Cnuts"

Don't know when it was recorded,but the ending makes sense now.The final meet with Poppy,his daughter.

ah good, a proper thread to him rather than a mention on some septic actor who was in a couple of good films & a load of tat

floyd was ace, a bit like ahw i reckon - rubbish at business (how many restaurants of his went bust?) but without him his chosen field would be a poorer place

only met him the once, in the bar, at bristol v leicester, top bloke.
