Anyone going to head along?

First Papal UK tour since 1982. Sure to make some serious money.

He's bound to do Wembley, what with them needing to pay off that stadium. O2 might get him to do a residency at the Millenium Dome, what with them sure to be the highest bidder, and they do need a replacement for Whacko Jacko. Who better than old Joe?

My Gran and Auntie have pictures of him in the kitchen. I really dont know why. The man is a nasty piece of work. He doesnt like Jews, doesnt like Muslims, doesnt like Gays. Sounds like he fit in perfectly with the Hitler Youth!

I was at the last tour. Karol Wojityla live at Bellahouston Park, Glasgow '82. Decent set list and an up for it crowd. Might see if I can grab a brief from a tout on the day. I heard he's playing ALL the classics this time round.

i was at the heaton park gig. popemania, it was - northern housewives screaming and trying to get a touch of the popemobile. i even wrote a review for the parish newsletter. fabulous costumes - JP2 was working the whole 'big silly hat' look long before PSB.

this line-up change leaves me cold. went off this genre a while ago and i CERTAINLY don't like the new direction.

I saw the last pope tour the netherlands in 1984ish. He went down so badly that the good people of Utrecht stormed the stage mid set and spent the rest of the gig rioting with the police. After the Dutch gigs you could buy T-shirts with the slogan "The Pope Smokes The Best Dope".

The Foreign Office has been forced to issue an apology after an official document suggested Britain should mark the Pope's visit by asking him to open an abortion clinic. The document, also suggested Benedict XVI could:

:: bless a gay marriage;

:: launch a range of Benedict-branded condoms;

:: apologise for the Spanish Armada;

:: sing a song with the Queen for charity;

:: show his hard line on the sensitive issue of child abuse allegations against Roman Catholic priests by "sacking dodgy bishops" and launching a helpline for abused children.

The ideas were included in a paper titled "The ideal visit would see..." which was distributed to officials in Whitehall and Downing Street preparing for the historic visit in September Many of the proposals appeared to mock the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church on issues like abortion, homosexuality and contraception and the difficulties which it is currently experiencing over cases of child abuse.

The Foreign Office apologised for what it described as a "foolish" document and said the individual responsible had been transferred to other duties.
