Just gave the new editors album a listen, it's allright to me. More electronics and the voice from Tom Smith sounds close to Ian Curtis more than ever, especially on the titletrack - In This Light and on This Evening.

Check that track and the album in full here: http://3voor12.vpro.nl/luisterpaal/

Also other cool albums are to be listend in full there. Check the 2562 or redshape album! :thumb:

Even if Editors cured cancer, solved world famine and rectified all the environmental damage the human race has caused TOMORROW they'd still be utterly irredeemable. I think Leggy posted a similar image some months back, and it seemed to me like the only appropriate response.

I've just got their album because Grahame said it's good, and also because I'm bound to see them live next summer and it will be good to know a couple of their songs.

Annoyingly, I can now point and say "I've got one of those" whenever I see the guitarist's Rickenbacker.

Yes but you don't have that GREEN Rickenbacker, you know, the black one.

I'm enjoying it very much so far. Editors are never 'instant'. Always takes time to grow on me. One of the reviews I read said that after ripping off Joy Division for their first two albums they've now made the natural progression towards ripping off New Order. A tad unfair but there is an undeniable similarity. Sounds waayyy more like New Order than the 10 second snippets of the BL album I listened to on iTunes last night (couldn't bring myself to part with the £7.99).

A very good band and a phenomenal live act.

Well, each to their own I guess. I thought they were OK until I saw them at Summercase a few years back. I was quite looking forward to their set, but I don't think Ive ever witnessed so much contrived angst and faux-emoting. Bumped into mild-mannered Nick King immediately after they finished. "They were fucking wank!", he opined.

I'm afraid I had to agree.

I love the Editors (probably added another reason why a few on this board won't listen, eh?) I'll be downloading the album today! If its more like NO, then that sounds good to me. The first two albums were tops.

Just read my post back and realised I actually used the phrase 'phenomenal live act'. On a public forum. For all the world to see. What a fucking wanker I am. :nonono:

I don't mind them. Thought the first album was very very good and it soundtracked a nice time towards the end of uni. I like the second album too but at the time it sounded a bit U2/widescreen Stadium rock which seemed a boring and predictable direction for them to take though there are still some cracking tunes on it.

Picked up the new one yesterday along with Bad Lootenant in HMV... Papillon sounds excellent although as all the reviews have said it's very Depeche Mode circa Violator. Certainly no bad thing and it'll be on heavy iPod rotation for the next month. At least they haven't continued the widescreen stadium rock direction and tried something new (well retro)

Alas I've not seen them live (yet).

The more I listen to it, the more it sounds like he's putting on a silly voice, and the more annoying it becomes...

Ha ha I just had exactly the same thought as I listened to it in the car this afternoon.

What the member for Glasvegas West meant to say was "I'm normally so nailed by the time they come on that I'm in the mood for exactly that sort of wankery".

Which is true for a lot of us.

First listen is not very favorable. They ruined their good sound. Album seems ruined by drum loops... maybe they are going down NOs path, though a bit quicker:nonono:

Funnily enough, well to me at least..I was working nights last night.I was in the cabin having my bait on my break,as you do,when this tit,one of our less distinguished managers(one or two of our managers are sound as a pound, though there are more chiefs than indians, which even they would admit)came in.. To cut a long story short-this knobhead docked me what amounts to nearly 300 sovs from my wages last month, that I can barely afford to lose, for a minor misdemeanour, which I don't deserve either by the way.Cunt.

Anyhow, this fucking jumped up little daft cunt wanted me to do him a favour to get him out of the shit, because he did'nt know how to do the job,but I did... At the time this dickhead wanted me to help him out, which I would have done for almost anybody else...I was listening to that new song'Papillon'by The Editors which happened to be on the radio and was liking it,while I'm scoffing a chicken curry..."Get fucked,I'm listening to this and having my bait"which I'm well within my rights to say..

Now he's in the shit.Daft cunt. What goes around comes around.

I like that 'Papillon' song though,I think I might buy the album.
