The Equaliser has died, RIP to a very cool man

That's my favourite joke ever: "Why has Edward Woodward got 4 D's in his name?"

He's married to "Mmmmm, Betty!" isn't he?

Well, he was.

Apparently he was really good mates with her Dad first which was a bit weird. But they were together a long time.

There is a moral in here somewhere. RIP.

I know he achieved huge fame with the Equaliser but for me his best telly role was Nev the dustbinman in Common as Muck, showed his great range as an actor. I guess for me Mam's generation he'll always be Callan

Film wise Breaker Morant and of course The Wicker Man stand the test of time and he was pretty good in Hot Fuzz.

Still, a life well lived and not a bad innings given his heart problems when he was the Equaliser. Left some great work behind which is no bad thing

Shame that a lot of people under 35 know him not for his acting, but only through that joke. (and 'What do you call a man with three planks on his head?', naturally.)

Errol Flyn is known for less. Or more. Have you got a match?

See the title of this thread -

Why has Edward Woodward got 4 D's in his name?

Cos if he didn't, he'd be called Ewar Woowar.

It's in the delivery Gaz. If you hear it told, rather than see it written on a website punchline first, it's funny. Take my word for it

I told it to all the lads at work last night and pretended I made it up myself. The giggles rumbled on right through bait time,I thought their pants would never dry.

One or two had heard the 3 planks one,so I could'nt really claim that one, sadly.Although I tried to,natch.

I got texted this one in return, from a lad I texted Ewar Woow ar to on another part of the site, which I found to be a tad crass....

The German keeper was found dead after being trained too hard.
