NOOL Year Honours

If we must we must...

2009 was the year, for most people, that all music became free. Embracing this, the sane side hosted a remarkable effort of graphs and giving.

Not much has changed on the site generally. The same people make the place worth visiting and the slow steady stream of new and interesting-if-you-like-that-sort-of-thing information continues.

Band-wise, New Order have divided into two entities. Barney and Steve forming a new band to take care of all musical activities and Hooky taking care of everything everything else. I don't know why they didn't think of it earlier.

Clearly a leaner operation than before, the band have produced a respectable album in record time and done several good gigs in small venues for us to enjoy, and we did. Never mind the quality, some may argue, but it's nice and wide and everyone gets a go.

Hooky has written a book and, we now hear, plans to open a club. Good for him.

Socially, although I've been unavailable for selection for most of the year, we've managed some pretty good trips and last month's do in Hamburg was the best yet, for my money. You look better in your memories than you do in photographs.

Whether or not you like or agree with the year's events, nobody could have predicted them all.

I love you all, but my honours ards go to Hooky, for doing his best at everything, to Jake, for coaxing some of the best performances I've seen from Barney, to Frads and GlasVegas, for being consistently readable on here and to Roy for never letting me down.

Good things about 2009:

My daughter (kid #4) was borned. She's a star, always happy and sleeps like an angel.

Bad things about 2009:

Lost my driving license Got the diagnose Chron's desiese (spell?) Burglers took a lot of jewelery from us this summer.

I'll get back when I can think of more good/bad things.

Good: School is going well so far. I completely started new with studies last year. Geotechnics now instead of Geology.

Bad: My parents almost split (I think they'd better do, but it's a kind of "they can't afford it" thing). So life in hell is going on and on and on...

Good: i worked so hard and i think it was worth it.

Bad: My mother passed away on april 20 th; after a fuckin' hard pancreatic cancer. And still i feel terrible about that :(

It's been a great year,defo a memorable one,what with a new Monty living with us (who puked up big style on me,not long before I watched Linda Blair doing it on a priest tonight)

Being in two bands,the latter band I love to bits,playing at NIGHT & DAY and ROADHOUSE..not bad for an ex-spring chicken.

GOOD/BAD..taking a demotion from Assistant Manager to acting Assistant manager,so I can earn more thana manager now,because I can get overtime and get a pissing bonus now.

BAD LIEUTENANT! The spirit of NO lives on,a bit weird standing on right of stage with no Hooky there though(!)

All my fave bands have toured this year as well,got to see most of them,apart from ORBITAL,ETIENNE and DEPECHE .

Good: Great F1 season. Hookybook. Iracing. Plenty of fishing. The salvation of Silverstone. Bad: Work sucks WAY more than usual (and right now, what the fuck can be done about that). Sore bits have been sorer since about august and been truly evil twice. Toad "winning" the FIA election. Being really shite at iracing. Bugger all fish (barring mackerel, they don't count).

Honours....the usual suspects Missy Gwen Cooper, Gene Wilder, The Tory,most of The Jock Order and Clayhead The Disturbed, for much amusement (albeit often largely unintentional in one case), and ALWAYS making a thread worth clicking (unless it's about football of course). Osama bin Dograpist-Fucktard gets the awards ("Noolie"?? "Hooky" "Twattie"? ) for person most deserving of being anally raped by an ebola ridden baboon. Digi wins "most blatant and disgraceful, yet somehow endearing abuse of moderator powers".

Sorry to hear Andres, moms are hard to lose. They are our comfort, our home from youth, kinda makes you feel like you really are on your own, with no turning back. All the best to ya in finding yer way.

As for me, finally started teaching secondary Earth science as a paid intern while getting my credential. Great group of kids to start off with (though I would love to choke slam just a couple of them time and again). No one understands Geology at the school, so I get to create the curriculum from the ground up.

My son seems to finally get on track with his grades and school (first report card with all A's and B's), as that has been a big struggle for the past few years (bringing home some really dismal grades).

NOOL has been a good place to get away for a few minutes of silence, when I can spare the time.

Bad: Got out of the Marine Corps to spend more time with the family, and found I'm spending even less. At least this is all short lived, as next year I'll have a curriculum in place.

BL not coming to the States, and probably wouldn't venture out West.

Thanks to all here that post. Get a lot of good stories, info and ideas from here. Been a good place to visit and be a part of (even if I am like sandpaper on a wound for many here)

The bad: Still being ill, getting worse thanks to the cunty actions of an ex, losing hope.

The good: Good friends and top mates, saying fuck it and making the most of it when I can.

The ugly(?) Nool: Bad Lieutenant,Bernard,Being Back,Beers with you Buggers,Bacon Buttys,Being caught By Bob while Bare Butt naked and Being Boned By Boy this is a lot of B's Re:order,Random text and facebook messages,tea spitting posts in here

And finally the upcoming highlight that is the Manchester xmas escapade:beer2:

Good: I managed to make it through teaching practice even though I probably won't become a proper teacher at a school after graduation. Managed to see Oasis in Sapporo, and managed to see Mani and Sugiurumn (Japanese house music DJ---he's worked with Tim Burgess, Mark Gardener and some other people on his songs) do some DJing in Tokyo(up front). Found out that my friend has the same birthday as mine (although I'm one year older) and we had a double birthday party at an Italian restaurant. Some good music being released this year that I liked.

Bad: I'm now facing a graduation thesis to write next year and some job-hunting to do for after my graduation.

Plus: Lots of interesting people on here..some on Facebook, some not...whatever. Some who were posting earlier in the year and seemed to have disappeared, some who have stayed. It's like a strange global community.

Bad:

Losing my Aunty and an old school friend. Finding out I’ll be out of a job in July next year. Getting another 3 points on my licence.

Good:

The new baby Vikings. The Rome trip. Re:Order in Nottingham – the funniest road trip I’ve ever had. Climbing Ben Nevis. Bad Lieutenant. The Paris trip. I attended a record number of gigs this year – some absolute blinders. Finally, meeting some very special people.

Best: Being too stoned to remember last week never mind the last 12 months,though ACR in Manc in May's a stand out (twas a good trip)

Getting better as I think I understood I would be sick to the end and therefore enjoy life as much as I can.* Having survived to 7 pints with my English mates in Paris. Having survived with less success to 5 pints with my best friend – but it was worth it. Meet and talk with T21, see them in concert for their last tour with an extra long special and unique setlist in Paris. Still have my 12 points even if I drive too fast on motorways. And this site still running.

* But you have to be careful. Being more selfish can hurt other people, which is bad.

As for me, the usual ups and downs. Still in regular work and still have my house which about a year or so ago looked unlikely.Various lodgers have sapped my energy this year but hopefully that issue is resolving itself.

Got one or two big things sorted out this year also and out of the way which is good.

Hardest moment of the year was attending my workmate Roy's funeral in October. He was the funniest fucker i've ever worked with and is sadly missed.We fell out for a while but so glad we sorted it out way before he passed away.Died 2 years before retirement.Frustrating thing was if only he'd had his health checked out but he wouldn't have it

New Order wise i took to the Bad Loo album in the end and still think Runaway is a fantastic song.Greatly enjoyed the Tony Wilson book and Hooky's too.

oh and respect to Terry Wogan for finding the funny side to everything

oh and to Jonathan (Buck Hill) for remaining resolutely single minded and refusing to follow the horde which is something i greatly admire and aspire to

Just another year of having to put up with people at work who have no clue for a large amount of time.....

best thing this year was the epic live version of And The Glitter Is Gone that Yo la Tengo unleashed upon a lame Portland "hipter" crowd.....a full 16 minutes plus of pulsing feedback....had to smile as the physical nature of the music shut the mouths of more than a few of them around me...bonus points to Ira and company for having the great taste of playing the Mekons on the PA before the gig....

keeping the vagina squirrels out of the Rose Bowl for a second straight year was also nice....

Having the bollocks to jack my job in and go back to University to become a Nurse - 1 year on and going strong into my second year.

Being able to give injections (who'd have though, eh)

Road trip to Manchester for champions league semi-final at Old Trafford

The second leg of the Champions league semi-final at Emirates

On the road and away days with Arsenal

Watching my son become a mighty fine little goalkeeper and mature (with a Kevin the teenager attitude to boot at times)

My family

Meeting someone who gets me, looks after me, talks to me and loves me and who makes me happy, calm and feel supported in everything I do. But mostly a person who never lets me stop laughing. Someone i love very much.

Changing and growing as a person and changing my life completely

Bad:

Losing one of my closest friends, Lisa in May so suddenly at just 36.

Becoming so attached to th patients i look after and then having to leave them.

Not having enough time for people, and to do as many things as i used to anymore
