I like the iPod Classic: 160 GB of storage space and capable of playing audio and video in just about any format (save FLAC, but iTunes has a way to convert FLAC to Apple's own lossless codec). Being nerdy, I love the album art feature that has the sleeve artwork prominently parading around the user interface. I just got the latest model to replace a dying old player and I love it.Only downside is you really need iTunes for it to work properly but I don't consider that a huge deal. My library is archived in iTunes anyway so it works for me at least.
There are other iPod models if you don't want to carry around as much music (I like to have my entire library with me when I travel): The Nano is considerably smaller, but much less expensive. If you're in the market for a new phone as well and have AT&T the iPhone might be in your price range. It also doubles as an iPod, but can't hold nearly as much due to the 10 million other things it does. Overall, if you're a huge music fan, have an equally huge library, don't mind going primarily with Apple software and hardware and that's your price range I say go for the Classic.
ipod touch 32GB looks good but i've heard the sony walkman x has better sound quality
i like the idea of having all my music all the time with the classic ipod

The iPod has far more accessories. Plus I personally love iTunes for organizing music. iPods have had a long, well-known history of working and doing well.

Hey,that's what I got for Xmas!
The only downside is that my laptop is filled to the brim & I'm not sure how to make room for it. I'm always afraid I'll delete the wrong thing & make my computer crash. Oh well, it's pretty nice to look at for now....even though I can't actually listen to it.

If you can just make room for iTunes, you could get some sort of external media for your actual music. I keep my whole music library on a 300GB external hard drive. Once you do that, you can go into preferences and change where iTunes looks for your library and any CDs you rip or digital music you get from the iTunes store will go there automatically.
Zune is Microsoft isn't it? Doesn't that mean it will break within a picosecond of being switched on?
