Gay of the Triffids

For once, I thought they couldn't go wrong, the book and original tv show, were dull as dishwater, and almost entirely devoid of triffids. Just shows, even timelords can be wrong.

Not only did they do the most american thing possible, by needlessly making it a family story...daddy invents the triffids, mummy is first victim.....fuck OFF....no need, unless you're trying to sell it to daddy obsessed jesuslanders.

And no more triffids than before (and they look shite).

But worst of all, and I am guessing cos I couldn't make it the whole way through the appallingly predictable guff of episodes 2....it seems they defeat the triffids???????????

That's just pathetic.....the only good thing about the book is that the triffids have totally won at the end of it.

Only commendable thing is that Eddie Izzard makes an excellent straight actor, proof he COULD have been the Doctor, without camping it to death.

Don't waste your bandwidth, read the book, it's no more exciting, but it's got less offensive bollox in it....or watch the old tv show.....like Survivors, it rest om the notion that after the end of civilization, Engerlanders will spend all their time ironing and making tea.

they didn't defeat the Triffids though did they? They had to escape to the Isle Of Wight where there were no Triffids and where the Triffids couldn't get to because, er, Triffids can't swim.Or at least i think that's what happened, my attention was nowhere near 100 per cent by about 20 minutes into part 2 through growing tired of strangely awful editing and general naffness of it all.

Dr Who -The End Of Time part 1 was a load of tosh as well. Mainly because of John Simm's usual overacting

Wondering what the hell a triffid is, I looked it up on Wiki. Never heard of the book before, but sounds like a good read.... something interesting rather than the novel rubbish that hordes the bookshelves now-a-days. I'll have to check it out.

It's not that good a book. And it really looked like the new show was heading for a triffid defeat...before I turned it off and put a Godzilla movie on instead (much better).

Oh, and it's not like previous Masters were understated and subtle. He IS supposed to be a total fucking fruitloop remember.

well i really enjoyed the two parter. I really thought Bill was gonna work out what the triffids were saying on his dictaphone-thingy-majig.

I dont know when it was filmed by I work opposite the Gerkin and never sawa ny filming.

So the triffids are scarier than Daleks? IE they can climb stairs.

My problem with it is that Im sure there would have been many more sighted people (people asleep, or on underground during the light display in the sky.

Maybe the book explains more but I got the feeling the Triffids and the blinding lights were connected (eg they both blind people).

Nope, the book fails on that count, nor do they work out triffidese in it either. Daleks have pretty much always been able to climb stairs, only the VERY first generations couldn't (IE, those in Genesis, Destiny, Resurection, etc etc etc)....in TV chronology they could levitate right back in 1963/4....and it IS shown on screen!....though later in the same story, they do seem a bit stairphobic. Interestingly.....the original 1963 ones also had the glowy eye thing that people think is a trademark of the new ones.

So....as someone who survived part 2.....who won? man or plant?

Just watched Part 1, a little worse for wear.

It was alright, as long as you hadn't seen that crap film in a lighthouse, or the series c.1980.

Killer plants were rubbish though...

Good to see Dougray Scott and Joely Richardson get involved in drama on this soil again.

Ok youre knowledge of Daleks is far superior to mine. But I do know the Dalek leader is Bobby Davros!

Plants won the day as they overrun the country and the world. But the human race survived due to living on Isle of White (persumably The Falklands, Easter Island, etc).

It reminded me of 28 Days Later in many ways. I thought the CGI stuff showing a devestated London was pretty impressive.

Funny, enough when I seen 28 days later, the first thing I said was "fuck me, it's day of the triffids"

I feel better knowing the triffids still won, that's only te early movie that lets the side down by having them be utterly destroyed on contact with seawater.

It was alright.A bit slow moving, about as fast as a plant! CGI was pretty good for a BBC show, even the odd DR WHO CGI doesn't quite hit the mark. Yeah good to see Joely back on screen, surprised they didn't get to include her in any scenes with her mum Vanessa Redgrave.
