Really want a laptop, I have to fight to access any PC in this place; really just want one to get access to email, bit of 'nool', 'facebook', 'jobcentre' that kind of thing......and also more importantly to 'legally' download music - not looking at a lot of spare cash here.......any suggestions other than the bargain pages?

Would like something new, but want to avoid Vista if possible...... is there any chance do you think, I could be looking to spend less than £500, and if so, where/when why?

Ta! :)

I really like Sony Vaio, but then you have to use Vista or Windows 7. I bought one a year ago with Vista, and that was shit. Now I run it with Windows 7, and it's ace!

If ypu want to have it with XP, then Dell and HP have lots of new laptops to choose from. I would go for a Dell instead of HP though. But don't pay less than £500 or it will be crap. Dell Lattitude models are good. Vostro are shit.

Good luck!

Thanks, I had a Vaio a few years back, but it proved not to be cat friendly........anyway, I really don't like Vista, quite like W7; not had good reports on Dell though. Never trust Ebay or the likes, but don't really trust PC shit-world either......hmmmmm. Is it really gonna be awful for less than £500?

Anyway, on the basis my Son wants his PC back.........I'll go again for now

If you were in the US, I would say go to NewEgg or TigerDirect. In the UK I found http://www.ebuyer.com/If you know what you want hand how you want it you can get a good deal.

I have an acer laptop that I found at Newegg for $550 instead of $700 so you can find a good deal if you are patient.

Also, Lenovo still makes the occasional laptop with Xp...

As pointed out above, a netbook rather than a bulky expensive laptop may suit your requirements.

I got an Acer Aspire from Tesco just before Christmas for £199 and it does the job just fine.

Edit - just checked, they don't have the particular model I bought in stock at the moment, but still a good selection : Click
