This was a great album. Was given a cassette of it in the long hot summer of 95 and loved it immediately. Was me first introduction to Spiritualized and rate it above Ladies And Gents although that album has some gems. Been revisiting it again of late on Spotify. The slower spacey ones are more up m y street. Never thought they did the faster rockier stuff that well.

What d'yer reckon to em?

For me, "Lazer Guided Melodies" is - and always will be - their masterpiece, followed by "Songs in A&E" and "Pure Phase". Agree that the mellow stuff has the most longevity and certainly works best on the LPs, but they hit their live peak circa 1993-1995. Their best shows around this point were where where they ONLY played the pure drone-rock stuff: two chords again and again and again accompanied by dazzling white-heat lighting.

Sadly, things'll never be the same. (Sonic) Boom Boom.

Thought Spacemen 3 were great. Sure I saw a gig with them and Loop together, incredibly loud, seemed to go on for aaaages. Awesome.

I've never listened to Laser Guided Melodies although i was aware of it when it was released. Will have to check it out. Was aware of Spacemen 3 in the mid to late 80s as they were from my hometown, Rugby. Though i don't recall ever seeing Jason Pierce around.

I'd also put Spiritualized's 2001 album Let It Come Down above Ladies and Gents.Out Of Sight, The Straight And The Narrow, I Didn't Mean To Hurt You, Anything More, Won't Get To Heaven etc.. all good songs

I don't think i like Kate Radley. Didn't she go off with (and later marry) Richard Ashcroft while she was still with Jason Pierce?

I prefer Spacemen 3 over Spiritualized. But I like both very much as well as Pete Kember's Spectrum.

I like this thread. Spectrum's "High, Lows and Heavenly Blows" is a great shagging record, IMHO.

Is that the reason why you don't like her? ^^

I quite like her keyboard playing on the first three Spiritualized albums. It's rather simple, but I like it a lot.

Lazer Guided Melodies might be my favourite Spiritualized album.
