In the 80s which was more important? Dance music from Britain/US or the Euro stuff?
Personally I think a lot of Italo is Hook-less New Order. I am convinced The Twins, Albert One, Gazebo etc were heavily influenced by NO and vice versa. I think the New York influence is overstated.
I liked the European Mix best from Taffy's classic 1987 synth-pop monster I Love My Radio (Midnight Radio). A British DJ called David Heane still plays an edited, combined version of the European & Amercian Mixes on his Friday Night High School Days show every now and then.
What we Brits haven't ever had much chance to listen to is the US industrial synth-rock duo Red Flag. Or Iris, if that was ever an 1980s artist too...
You know, there used to be another NOOLer who was interested in these vital questions. But then he aroused the ire of everybody else with his reactionary observations on race, nationality, religion, and class.
Too bad, you two probably have a lot in common, music-wise.
