I've just started getting into them recently.
They're in my top ten, probably.
My favourite line in any pop song ever (this morning) is "if Shelly would just come back it would be allright"
I just got myself their banana-record, because I'm exploring the 70s and late 60s musically atm. It's O.K. and I can imagine that they were kind of groundbreaking back then. But one of my favourite bands? No.

I re:newed my enthusiasm for them recently. spent most of last week listening to them to and from work. I laughed out loud to 'heard her call my name' which contains one of the best lines ever, "AND THEN MY MIND SPLIT OPEN!!" - just before it goes into a shockingly awful/brilliant guitar solo. even if they are not my second or third favourite band then whoever is was probably influenced by theVU. them and 'imagination'

He he thanks everyone - yr answers raised a :) or two. Can I recommend loaded album which contains lots of awful/brilliant moments and my fave line - hey it was alllllriiiiiiiight.
BTW I am a 43 yr old mum of two but I so wish I was 17 yr old art student etc etc

had a little spell of listening to them back in the late 80s but though i got something out of them i concluded you had to have been there in the 60s to really appreciate them. always thought it'd be the same for any 18 year old giving New Order a listen these days.
Sunday Morning and that one with Nico, All Tomorrows Parties are better songs of theirs that spring to mind.

my second favorite band (according to the number of times one of their songs has been played on my player that keeps track of that kind of shit) is the Ting Tings...odd...I would have imagined it was either something by The Chemical Brothers or The Crystal Method...

there a very listenable band,, bought loads of stuff after just listening for years,, bit of artschool Mc5 in there,,,,saw lou a few years back and he played a couple of velvets ,, thoughj as usual he was a bit up his bum when the v u reformed,, raw, defined,, wish order had played sister ray more .

Bernard did indeed say once that he was influenced by the Chic guitar sound and there is a Velvets ish style to some of his stuff
