What's your favourite smell?
Mine is when you get into the car in the morning after a night out, and you can still smell the person you were with. You'd not even noticed it the night before, but there it is, a little blend of perfumes that is almost too subtle to properly detect; more like a memory than an actual smell.
And roasted carrots smell nice too.

Strong coffee.
How pubs used to smell when you walked past - pipe, cigar and cigarette smoke mixed with fresh beer.
Girlfriend's hair when she's just had a shower.
The smell that old fashioned toy ray guns used to make after the sparks had been generated.
Fresh rain after a hot day.

if you had to cut the grass on a day when it was 100 degrees, you wouldn't say you loved that fucking smell...
of course, when I have to mow the grass, I usually have to put gas (petrol) in the tank, so that kind of offsets the suckitude of having to mow said grass...when it's a billion degrees (global warming and all) outside...

Then it brings you in somekind of happy melancholy... I get what you mean.
Some are no more common by our days: Smell of coal heating in town. Smell of pubs when it was a mix of tobacco and bier. Petrol. But nowadays everyone has a fuckin'bloody diesel and diesel stinks...
Air conditioner when it is heat outside.
Smell of old LPs.
Landscape of my homeland, where all these herbs you put in your food, grow freely in summertime.
Lover's perfume.
