Right, I've got 3 penalty points for speeding on my licence, from 16/03/07. I was under the impression that these came off your licence after 3 years. I've checked the DVLA website and it says I can have them removed after 4 years.

But, recently, I had to produce my documents at the local Police Station and the bobby there said those 3 points don't count by 16/03/10.

Is this the case?

OOOOh... A subject close to my own heart.

I got three points in Sept 07 for doing 35 in a 30. And got done t'other day for another 3 points for using a mobile phone.

Presented my licence last week and got told the same by local bobby that it expires after three years.

I then proceeded to drive through a flashing camera at a traffic light, so am currently frightened of the postie.

Apparently points remain legally active for three years, and inactive for a further year.

Hope this helps:thumb:

Cheers Berty!

I too, got done recently for using a mobile phone whilst driving (something I never do). I was actually parked in a long line of cars at traffic lights in the centre of Manchester. Somebody had been ringing my mobile 3 times and I ignored it. Whilst I was parked up, my mobile rang again. I was getting a bit worried that it was urgent and I picked it up to check the number, with no intention of answering it. Bloody copper had clocked me.

Oh and to add insult to injury, when I rang the number later, it was somebody trying to sell me some double glazing - grrrr!

The points aren't 'removed' as such, you basically have to apply for a new, clean licence - which costs £20...

Dont want to sound like a mad driver but i've collected 21 points (all SP30s & NOT DRINK DRIVING)since i passed 22 yrs ago and still have my paper pink license with all em on & me ma's old address. I like it- no cnut in changing me to a photo card and no cnut is charging me £20 to get a new one with the correct address. It really winds up the dvla when they get yr licene with an addy from eons ago - fuckers. Missy Jem - whether you tell the ins. company is another thing but that tale is off the record. to be honest only when you get 9 points does the ins company hike up the premium

Me either, although when he did me for the phone, I was already on 6 points for speeding (before anybody jumps in about me 'reckless driving', I was doing 34 and 35 in a 30!) The copper was about to do me for driving without due care, which would mean 6 points and a court appearance and hefty fine. I managed to persuade him not to be a git, and explained I would lose my licence. Luckily he agreed to the 3 points and fine.

When I contacted the insurance, they said there would be no increase in my policy. So that was good.

I'm extra careful on the roads now though.

Being a former Rozzer (9 years with GMP), one of my biggest gripes is not people who occasionally speed, or glance at their mobile phones (technically it's an offence to smoke or eat whilst driving as well, but that's another story), it's the knob head, traffic w@nk, white capped, suped up car driving nazis of the Traffic department. So superior advanced drivers who think they are god's gift to four wheels. There was one traffic w@nk who actually potted (reported for summons) a section Bobby who was driving his patrol car, on duty, at 35mph in a 30 zone. They should disband Traffic and put all of them back on the streets to do something useful instead of having these plastic PCSO things that have no powers whatsoever. Either that or set fire to the b@stards. They (GMP) claim to be cash strapped, but they could save a load of money by not buying all the Traffic vehicles. Mini rant over. Thank you.

They've got a brand-new 10-plate Subaru Impreza. My mate took a piccie when he dropped a prisoner off at Pendlebury nick.

I'm in training so I'm up Rivington every other day, either running or cycling. I'll have to look out for you, if I'm on my bike, I'll run you over :p

Last night, I read something about the last technical improvments in the UK about drivers' repression.

Let's say my car is registred JPR 1971 F. A radar by the road reads it. It sends it to a satellite which spots the car with JPR 1971 F as transpondeur. If you drive over the limit in a pre-defined GPS zone, then the sat sends back a message on the ground and... you lose your points.

On this side of the Channel, the Schmitts (as you call yours Bobbies), also have a lot of toys to play with to bother you. They hide by the motorways and control your speed with a laser device by... behind. Very brave! And they've got a new one. Not only does it say if you have drunk, but it also says if you had a smoke - the tolerance is 8 hours. But if you are a regular smoker, then, they take you blood and whatever it says, you are good for a huge fine and plenty of juridical problems...

In my opinion, they should take blood to everyone. The French are almost all on pills, of the kind with the yellow triangle on the box stating "beware if you have to drive". With all the money, they could pay back the Greeks' debt!
