My belief is that it's an unassuming parody, much in the same way "twatlight" by Stephanie Meyers is. By remaking it, they're effectively pissing on what you may hold sacred or dear for a larf.

That's why I won't watch it. I love Freddy Krueger (as it is played by Robert Englund). Michael Bay is remaking every horror-classic these days... Shame on him.
