after being inspired by Hooky playing this at the lowry I thought I'd give it a go, as Hooky said it was one of Tony's favourite tracks (though on OSM Tony said it was one of Rob's favourite tracks) I thought it would make a fitting if not very well timed tribute to Tony too, and sliiped on a little sample from OSM at the end.

Should inspire me to do my own version but I'm far too lazy

Priceless mate. Love it. Wish you'd done the wee chordy bit you can hear on the studio version, but I'll forgive, since by the sounds of it you're playing FUCKOFF gauge strings ...etc suspension bridge cables :D I'm a huge numpty and play egomaniacal guitar strings.

That sample at the end, has had more impact on my life than any other sentence. "you've always kept music live, so these machines will be playing it live" and "All of those machines were live then, all of those machines". Crystalised my already held views on the subject, making me downright fucking militant, especially when New Order started to pussy out and mime like mental defectives. Also, on anything where I play with my toys, I ensure the credit never goes down as "keyboards", cos I cannae "play" those anyway....nope "machines" (or "bass and machines"), and it's all from that one night on OSM :D

I'd have put the full quote in but the footage available on youtube cuts halfway through the second bit, so had to do a sneaky bit of editing covered by delay and reverb, sounds OK though doesn't it.

it's funny how we all slag of Tony to some extent, but he's had as much influence on me as New Order have, for instance my belief in regionalism, hence the avatar.

Excellent, Jed!

There's so much love for this track. It really should have been a B-side, if not on the album proper.

Very true. Still one of the best bits of my life was having the chance to thank him and say hello. Regionalism can be a mite silly (cornish separatist bombers anyone?), but in a nation with such a warped balance of power, it's essential, just to keep everywhere else's heads above water. Oddly, it may be part of why I hate my "countrymen who care" so passionately...one lot want us to belong to London, the other lot want us to belong to Dublin.....I reckon we should belong to Belfast, and stay chummy with the UK and Ireland (after large payouts for causing all the shite here LOL).

As for you Mr 50....I still reckon your arrangement is better, you THOUGHT about it, the official one is literally the clips from substance gaffer taped together in teir video order, V poor.

Wish someone had a better copy of the video, the current one is vile.....looks a lot like one I got back, 2 generations down from my own tape of it (now dead), on a compilation made my a local collector....I sometimes wonder if it's the source of the one on youtube....the universe being as small as it is, it could well be, unless anyone knows a definite geneology for it.

this is a better one than spottys

re regionalism, I wouldn't go the the point of terrorism, i can't get that worked up about anything! I just think we should have better regional identities and not wash it all away to make life easier for the whitehall and the post office! (if you want us to use post codes sort a decent standard out!)

My major concern is the UK's identity sinking into the US's cultural void. But if I lived oop north, I'd be rampant, when the country's entire state structure is base in the south....robbing your raw materials and treating you like lower animals.

Terrorism is all fun and games until somebody gets hurt.
