Absolutely brilliant! I watched last four episodes back to back last night.
"YOU'RE UNDER ARREST FOR THE MURDER OF MY CAR,YOU DYKE-DIGGING TOSSPOT!"
Didn't expect any of that. What a bizarre way to close the show.
Would've been even freakier with Sam coming out of the boozer than Nelson at the end.
Were they trying to 'out-Lost' Lost in its final weekend as well?

wonderwall was in as a clue, cos the copper that was stabbed came from the 90,s.

Gotta say I was a bit disappointed with the ending masel. Though there could well be a spin off with the Gene Jenie. Some cracking one liners though.
Yes kind of clocked Wonderwall was in as a clue but didn't make the connection til 79 order said above that it was that copper who came in at the end. came in going on about "where's me iPhone!"
So "Ashes To Ashes" is everyone being dead to,er, dead?
I quite liked it. Thought it worked out pretty well considering Ashes to Ashes (for me) was a just an average retread of Life on Mars. A few questions linger but only really pedantic ones. It's obvious DCI Keats was meant to be erm, Satan? That lift was probably destined for hell! I laughed at how he insisted on looping Club Tropicana all the way back to London in the Quattro... The guy playing him did an excellent job, a proper nutter snarling/hissing at Hunt. He was in Red Riding a couple of years ago as well wasn't he? But yeah, overall the Gene Hunt myth was tied up nicely at the end...
Very relieved to see they've finally ended it though. I thought it would have been perfect if they'd ended it at series 2 of Life on Mars as Mr Simm did but they decided to drag it on. The whole concept lasted at least two series too long. Bits of Ashes to Ashes were really ropey and I don't think Keeley Hawes was good in her role; she's very easy on the eye but her character was really bloody irritating.
As for Wonderwall yeah Shaz was wearing a mid-90s era Met uniform I believe.
was it some kind of "limbo " for coma coppers? hunt was some kind of guardian angel, protecting them from soul hunter DCI Keats, who wants to take them to hell, not goto the Railway Arms "heaven" or maybe back to life?

Like Ally, I took that to mean that Shaz was killed in the 90's, especially as the bloke that stabbed her was trying to steal a Ford Sierra at the time.

Daniel Mays. Was he in Red Riding Hood? I forget. He's been in loads of stuff - couple of Mike Leigh films, and the recent remake of the Firm. Don't know if he's found his niche yet though - serious actor, or comedian. Was excellent in BBC3's Funland, but then pops up in stuff like Plus One and Top Buzzer, where his talents just seem a bit wasted.
Even though A2A aired on Japanese cable/satellite TV, I wasn't interested, and I don't have cable/satellite.
However, I do have both LoM series on DVD (first I rented it, then I bought it because I liked it) and I was curious about the ending to A2A as it may have revealed more about the characters, which it seemed to have done, judging from what I've read about what happened.
Interesting that the cops were all dead (or nearly dead).
Yeah I actually liked this more than LoM,though instead of the lovely Annie,you had Keeley AND Monserrat!
One "minor" thing. If Sam Tyler had to fake his own death to go to pub heaven.....how are four of 'em going to go on?

I think he was a spaz Polish bloke framed for one of the murders in Red Riding. He played a spaz very well. Apologies for the use of spaz to everyone, it was meant to be descriptive and not insulting to spazzers.

he was also in hustle as a smarmy mark, did that quite well i thought.
& yeah after taht last episode, suddenly the title made a lot more sense!

His croaking noises at the end of Ashes To Ashes when Gene Hunt lamped him was a bit spazzy i thought
