I saw this great article recently on YouTube and think it's time we had a little debate as Father's Day is just round the corner.
Ben Stein makes a compelling case for restoring the necktie. It is also hilarious. Watch for yourselves and cast your vote.
To quote the video:

So they would like to perpetuate another outward symbol of social divide?

Ironically, when I was 16 and making minimum wage hauling rotten produce out to the dumpster behind the market, I was required to wear a necktie (and an apron over that).
Now that I'm grown up and professionally employed as a corporate drone, everything's gone "business casual" and I'd be considered overdressed if I wore a tie to the office.
The disappearing necktie? Disappearing where? I have to fucking wear one to work every day so it's still very much a part of my life.
California is the capitol and starting place of the "casual work gear". As such, people have really forgotten how to wear any dress clothes. It really is embarrassing, as they can't tie anything other than a triangle knot and the tie usually extends down past their crotch, or is 6" away from the belt in which it looks more like a napkin around their neck. Every guy might not need to wear a tie often, but at the very least, they should know how to wear one when occasion occurs.
Generally here, workplaces tend to be formal..but in the summer, many workplaces encourage men to just wear a shirt appropriate for a suit and trousers, without the tie and jacket (to allegedly help save energy).
The logic seems to be, if men didn't wear the jacket and tie, they wouldn't have to set the air conditioning to such a cold temperature (and the women wouldn't need to freeze). 
Anyway, I will admit that I love men who can wear a stylish suit and a tie and look fabulous. 
(Yes I have a 'thing' for stylish suits and ties on handsome [or at least the types I think are handsome] men. )
I think it's incredibly sexy.

Instead of a tie, my family got me a T-shirt with the McDonald's Fry Guys on it. It's pretty sexy.
