As for others:
The Village came on random play a week or so ago and I felt a distinct stirring. An actual 'woah' in fact. It is a fantastic tune, and such a perfect record of a certain moment in time that it really takes your breath away. A track by The Whip came on straight after and I was lost in some sort of reverie about how The Whip are some sort of modern incarnation of New Order; an insight into what they'd look and sound like if they were just starting out now. Interesting thought, I thought: how would New Order fare in the era of instant media-sharing and Facebooks and Twitter?
Some days I know what the drummer out of the Whip had for breakfast before I've had my own. I just can't imagine New Order getting on well in that sort of environment. Where would Peter Saville have fitted in if the music was pinched and shared without anyone even wondering what the cover looked like?
I could have gone on much longer there, but I got very bored.
