Should The State keep the 50p top rate of tax?

No Harket nonsense here; this is a serious thread that I want to debate before the BillyBragg.co.uk forum beats us to it.

Here is a link to the report that Danny Alexander, the Chief Secretary to the Treasury (George Osbourne's #2), is planning a crackdown on high earners who are not paying as much tax as he would like:

As you'll have guessed from some of my own posts in previous years, I have no faith in party politics, nor do I hold any faith in our so-called political democracy (where individual state countries don't have the legal muscle to tell multi-continental companies what they can and cannot do).

Keeping (and applying) the 50p top-rate tax bracket may slowly ease the defecit burden on the UK government, but where will all our call-centre and I.T. posts disappear to? Pastures where governments are a soft touch on human rights? :banghead: :read: :uhoh: :confused2:

Not sure what their human rights are like?

Have absolutely no idea why the 50p tax rate is being intrinsically linked with call-centre and IT posts in either the above sentence or, indeed, your poll? What's the link between the two?

Are call-centre workers earning a lot more money than I could've ever imagined!!!

I hadn't realised that posts relating to Aha! and Simple Minds indicated a lack of faith in political democracy..:)

As for call centres, I presume that they would be unaffected by this tax rate as it is corporation tax rates which determine whether such multi-nationals remain or not?

Nobody I know who works in call centre earns anywhere near the amount required to pay 50p income tax, so I fail to understand where your argument originates from? :crazy:

And i don't get the 'keeping and applying' bit. The government are threatening to axe it, you knob, or have you missed the point of the whole debate entirely?
