Don't know if any of you remember me. I used to post here years ago, but I don't think I've stopped by since 2007. I was reading about New Order getting back together over the summer, and I thought about this forum again. Just stopping by to see how you all are doing.

I mean, i don't hate Depeche Mode. Just never bought a single one of their records. Dunno why but i just didn't. They were never important or relevant that's all.

I don't hate them but i'm still at an utter loss to understand why they are lumped in with New Order

Oh hang on, some American is gonna come back and say both bands used synthesizers in the 80s. Right

I wouldn't say they're a band I'd got out of my way for, but they did some good tracks and have been through a lot of shit! (no gay joke meant there)

Jesse, you've missed out on some serious pricks spamming these boards. No wonder Depeche Mode insist on a strictly moderated message board/forum.

You've also missed out on some fine productions by independent artists such as Chris Bentley, Jed Stephens and Honeycroft. If you can't find their mp3s, message me and I'll point you to the legal stuff on the net.

My honest view: when Depeche Mode started out with Vince Clarke in the band, they were like gimpy toytown Kraftwerk wannabes. They were embarrassing.

When Vince buggered off to form Yazoo, he took the toytown synth sound with him and Depeche floundered for a while......until Alan Wilder arrived to rescue them from obscurity. Bit by bit they started shaking off their dubious reputation and started getting progressively more successful.

I liked some of their stuff (around the late 80s to early 90s) and thought they were pretty influential despite all of the hostility some have directed towards them. But then, when you consider the bands that made it huge in the US/worldwide that AREN'T Simple Minds or UPoo, then give me latter-day Alan Wilder-era Depeche Mode anyday!

(BTW, they've gone a bit pants again though, since Wilder left some time ago)

I'm not a mad fan more of a casual fan I think Violator is a fantastic album though and they have made some great tracks like "Walking In My Shoes" [Depeche's "Ruined In A Day"] the Sound of The Universe album even had its moments such as "In Sympathy" and "Perfect".

But admitting to liking Depeche Mode on here is a bit like coming out of the closet.

Depeche Mode, to me, went downhill went Dave Gahahahan came of the heroin. The last three or so albums all sound the same to me. Someone score him some smack soon.
