Harry Potter

I have read and enjoyed the first four. They are very good. Did not see the film, though, I never do with books I really like (made an exception with LOTR, a superb film by all accounts).

I am really dissapointed in JK Rowlings, how can she do that to children. To us a two year wait means nothing but for a seven year old having to wait two years for a book must be torture.

By the way Nicos, did you know Rowlings is a massive Smiths fan?

she is from a village about 4 miles from where I grew up & a lot of the characters in hogwarts(or however its spelt) are based on the teachers from our local school.

can't figure out who is who, but reckon that kid who used to come to our school on a broom must be in there somewhere...

When she was on Desert Island Discs (BBC Radio 4 programme in which people pick half a dozen records they'd want with them if stranded on a desert island) she picked Bigmouth Strikes Again. Quite a change, since usually the people selected to go on are classical snobs who pick at most one token pop song, usually by the Beatles.

As for Harry Potter, never read or even touched any of the books, and to be honest I have no inclination to...

i haven't read the books, but the first movie wasn't a big entertainer to me. Nice for kids, but not for my shattered mind. Prefer "Episode 2" instead. The DVD got stuck in my DVD-player for a week now :square:

Yep, you're right Hibster, I was a bit tongueincheeked there, I have mentioned before the need for a tongue-in-cheek smiley as the winkey smiley cannot convey all the delicate nuances the former does but I must admit I cannot figure out how to draw it.

I have absolutely no intention of seeing any of the Potter flicks (unless I wanna really come off as sensitive to a girl), and I also have no interest in reading the books. Potter promotes Satan worship and the like (according to my preacher) so no Potter for me, thank you.

Satan worship? Whoa, now. Just a bunch of kids books. I think we should be worrying about how badly MTV is corrupting new young minds everyday before we skip to Harry. (by the way I love everything I've seen/read). That JK Rowling though. She gives you Brits a bad name among my peers. She's got a lot to make up for in that 5th book coming, whenever.

Well, I happened to be at my uncle's watching the telly when I saw the first movie was playing on HBO, so I thought "Okay, I'll give it a chance." I did, and I must say, it's not just a kiddie movie: it's a REALLY BAD kiddie movie. It's just not my cup of tea, though Richard Harris was good in it. Mind you, I only caught the last hour and 10 minutes of it, but I can't see sitting through the first half. I tell ya what, if Harry, Ron, and that chick have an x-rated threesome in the next movie, I might just check it out after all....:D

The books are excellent, the second movie is indeed better than the first but both are ruined by daniel radcliffe's shocking acting, they only thing more wooden was his broomstick. Although that kid that plays Ron is brilliant.

Fascinating fact: Ed Tudor-Pole had a cameo appearance as they owner of that shop in Knockturn Alley, but was cut from the film. Damn them!!!

I must admit, I had no plans to see the first or the second, but while bein a bum this weekend, i happened to notice they were about to show it on HBO. I watched it; not bad. It kept me interested. Not as exciting for me as LOTR, which is a in my top 5 sci-fi adventure movies (#1 has been and almost always will be EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, should have won best picture!!) I am actually inclined to see the second Harry Potter now. But I am really waiting for LOTRs II and Matrixs' II and III. And the last two SW movies were total bunk. Lucas is ruining the Star Wars legacy with his inept unimaginative directing.

oh yea, and I REAAAALLLLY cant wait for the last and final Star Trek pic, NEMESIS. It looks great. I already heard a little of the plot and it looks like its gonna be the bomb, especially since its gonna be an even numbered film ( no. X) i take it everyone here knows the story with Star Trek films and how the numbering works?? the even numbered ones are the best, odd numbered ones suck....except III which i like for some reason.

I saw both movies and I thought they were both great. I don't like Sci Fi movies at all but I do like Harry Potter. I also thought the second was better than the first!

WILL SHE RELEASE THE NEXT BOOK, DAMN IT! all seven have been written! what's the hold-up, woman?

oh, and i haven't seen the second film. enjoyed the first one though. of course it could never hold a candle to the book, but that's no surprise.

I understand that the remaining books are yet to be written. Only the last chapter of the last book has already been written and is carefully guarded by dragons and Nibelungs.

Goblet of Fire is the best book by the way...
