Why Are The Political Debates Getting Locked?

Well?....There is more to life than a gloomy band from Manchester you know. There are issues which affect us all and which we should all be aware of. These happen in a place called "the real world" where New Order and Glasgow Celtic are, unfortunately, pretty insignificant.

This is a general chat forum where things like this should be discussed if we so whish so why are they getting locked? It's not as though they dominate the forum, your lucky if you get one topic a month. They also feature some of the most literate and stimulating posts to appear on NOOL. I might be at the opposite end of the political spectrum from our Texan friend but I get more from reading his posts than I do from endless debates about album tracks, b-sides and bootlegs.

If you aint interested in the topic thread you don't have to read it and you certainly don't need to but in with a "hey aint the world a happy place, you lot shut up and lets get back to discussing Temptation 12" v Temptation Substance Version" type post. Nor should it be locked.

So what gives?

(PS Temptation 12" wins every time)

Seconded. I've read most of them with more interest than I can muster for the 32 or so retro threads and 104 polls. I'm know political expert and have nothing to contribute but can see no reason to stop them.

Grahame is right, I have read the debate between Michael and Teleharmonium with great interest. As far as I know there is nothing on the terms of usage of the board against political debates as long as they are conducted in a civilised way.

Perhaps a forum for politics - the power, corruption and lies forum?

I haven't understood most of it !

I enjoy disagreeing with just about everything Michael McDermott says! :p

Seriously, I imagine the reason for locking it down is to keep debate from turning into good ole' fashioned namecalling (which politics is, really....) and angry words being exchanged. Nonetheless, how can we know where a discussion might lead if we don't even get the chance to start one?

That is a GREAT idea!!!

I would like to echo the sentiments of my online friends here.

We came to this place because of our fondness for a rock 'n roll band. And, I think it's great that we can engage in a free flow of ideas. Isn't that the real purpose of the internet? To get different points of view? To dispell myths? To have civil ( but sometimes heated ) debate over the issues of the day? Isn't it about learning things you didn't know about other people? Seriously, how many people here would've thought that a fan of New Order would be a card carrying Republican and attend Mass on a weekly basis??

I'm reminded of the scene in Spike Lee's "Malcom X" when Malcom X goes on his pilgrimage to Mecca and finds light skinned, blue eyed Muslims. He never knew they existed and it was (according to the moive) a turning point in his life.

Neworderonline.com is kind of like the "Mecca" or "Holy See" of New Order. A place where fans of all stripes should be able to come and be friends and discuss freely, without the fear of censorship.

actually, I do have to read it, I kind of feel it's my duty as the moderator of this here forum to do so...and it was getting very tired in my honest opinion. I'm sorry if political banter is something I'm not all that interested in, and after a hard day at work, this is the last thing I want to read about...

BUT...if you lot are interested in it, I guess I can do my duty...and continue to read on it...as long as everyone agrees to play nice...

so now, after further review, the decision to lock the thread has been overturned...

and who said I'm not a reasonable man?

and I do apologize for disappointing any of you!

have at it!!!

Political forum?

Serious? I have no problem in creating forums though it's not really the point of this website, but I'm sure it will be more active than the swedish forum right now.

If you people really want it, and you have a moderator in mind, maybe I can make this happen... because I won't really monitor it ;)
