has anyone heard of this guy? i came across him while downloading MP3s from the amazon.com download site. his name is senor coconut y su conjunto and he has an entire album of kraftwerk songs done in latin style!
anyway, i downloaded his version of 'showroom dummies' and it's quite entertaining. think kraftwerk meets jose feliciano...lots of trumpets and xylophones.

Senor Coconut has released a whole album of Kraftwerk covers. If you want it, let me know & I'll put a tape in the post to you, might even be able to find the CD in a London record store if you're really keen. Well, it's Chrimbo after all.

you guys are jumping on this a year late...Senor has already released another album but not as good as the Kraftwerk covers...should be easy to find...most shops have it here...

Yes, Agentwood. The arrangements are marvelous and on point in every song covered. Senor Coconut, a.k.a. Atom Heat, a.k.a. Uwe Schmidt is to be revered. The best thing is that he is a German who moved to Chile and picked up on Latin rhythms as the basis to his cover album, which is far more than that. He also has recorded under numerous other guises such as Geez N' Gosh, Midisport, and lb (another great cover album you should check out called "Pop Artificielle"). He has collaborated with Pete Namlook on the Fax label, and with Burnt Friedman for two great albums under the Flanger guise.
yes, the burnt friedman stuff is very good...
i highly recommend Burnt Friedman & Nu Dub Players - Just Landed ~scape 04
not at all like Senor Coconut (and not with Uwe Schmidt) but excellent in it's own right...
i was shocked and horrified when someone asked who Augustus Pablo was on this forum recently...Come On people! Know Yer DUB!
Has anyone heard Johnny Cash's cover versions of DM's Personal Jesus and NIN's Hurt? He should do one of Run Wild, I think.

Yeah, that's my favorite Burnt Friedman album, although I haven't heard the one he did with Jaki Liezebeit from Can. And for people not knowing Augustus Pablo, I'm not surprised. Most people don't venture outside of Bob Marley in their reggae musical quests, and if they do it's for something horrible like Shaggy. There was a very funny piece in the Onion recently that read something like "Bob Marley's "Legend" banned from all fraternities nationwide."

his version of one by u2 was on a free cd from q a while back, was from some album of cover versions - is that where these are?
