Rejoice football fans down under, FIFA have granted Oceania an automatic qualification place into the World Cup finals.

This means we just need to clear the not-so-precarious hurdles of Samoa, Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand to play World Cup football for the first time in almost 30 years.

Cheers UEFA for coughing up a spot for us. Hope it doesn't cost England an appearance.

Actually I'd love to see Australia play on the world stage:

a) they've got some very good players b) it will be a pleasant change to see Australia not win something they compete in !

(last point somewhat tongue in cheek, as I have nothing but respect for the way the Australian sports academies have continued to produce high quality sportsmen and women, something that should be a lesson to us all)

I'm sure Harry Kewell will be delighted at this, he'll potentially be at the peak of his career in 2006. Actually think Australia could do quite well, they have some emerging talent & this last WC has shown how you don't need a track record to reach the latter stages.

The fact that its taken this long for FIFA to sort out an automatic qualification place is a disgrace. The Aussie teams of '98 and especially '02 would have been a welcome addition to the tournament.
