I was at work yesterday when I heard a song that sounded distinctly like Andy Partridge singing, and the lyrics were very much what I would expect of XTC had done a take on a Christmas song. Anyone know if they ever did such a song. I think the chorus went "Thanks for Christmas" or something else secular-like.

Yes they did, under the name of the Three Wise Men. Here's the sleeve....
It was a 45, and both sides (b-side is Countdown To Christmas Party Time) are on the Rag & Bone Buffet compilation disc. I love the a-side.

I figured it might have been something they did as "Dukes of the Stratosphere", the side project from the mid-Eighties. Thanks, Green!
Pretty sure that that's still in print, it's a compilation of their b-sides and other stuff that they put out (there is an awful movie called Times Square that had a pretty decent soundtrack which XTC's Take This Town was on). Also of interest on that disc is smart-alecky Andy's short treatise on The History Of Rock And Roll, which clocks in at 22 seconds, and pretty much explains just about all that had happened in the history of rock music when the song was released in 1982.
Here's the sad part: I saw a used copy of the Rag and Bones Buffet album at a now-closed record store, and I didn't think to get it while the store was still in business. I am so ashamed now.....oh well, I think I've seen it elsewhere, so I can rectify the situation.
