I think any understanding of the dynamics behind 90210's success over the years would be remiss to ignore the contributions of the Peach Pit and Joe E. Tata. Every week, the rich prep kids would gather at Joe's greasy and unsantized dump to chomp down stale hamburgers, flat sodas, and moldy fries. The man himself was a Kierkegaard-ian enigma, a man who never married but who remained faithful to his principles: A shitty 50's style diner never goes out of style unless you give in to your depression and slowly kill the patrons with a machete. Dispensing such nuggets of wisdom as "Brenda, one order of fries!", "Steve, don't kick the jukebox," and "Give all glory to Allah, Brandon, and all shall bow down to your rich ass," Joe E. (as his friends called him) was by far the lynchpin of the series. This was made evident enough when the "Peach Pit After Dark" phase of the show kicked in, and ratings (like Tori's boobs) began to sag. Quality, not quantity, was Joe's trademark, and he will be missed....oh wait, he's not dead, is he? 
(Why couldn't THIS GUY be busted for child porn, and not Pete Townshend?)
also, I believe if you read Gravity's rainbow, there is a mention of the peach Pit and its role in the end times 
when mr. and mrs. walsh left the show, nat stayed on as the sole adult character...he was a combination of mel from 'alice' and ed mcmahon. long-suffering working class diner keep and kindly sidekick. we shall never forget you, mr. tata....
