Never in my life have I seen a worse spectacle....

I heard about this new show, "Man Vs. Beast" in which humans are pitted in athletic competitions against animals. Expecting out-and-out brutal hand-to-hand combat on a Roman gladiatorial scale, I was disappointed to see that basically humans and animals in competition against one another never came to blows. It aired at 9 last night on Fox (the network of Joe Millionaire) but I didn't get home til 9:30. I missed the hot-dog eating competition between a champion glutton and a bear and a sprinter racing not only a giraffe but a zebra as well. What I did catch, however, was a damnation on all of mankind...

The last event of the evening concerned pitting little people (dwarves) against an elephant. What, you ask, was the field of endeavor which pitted these longtime adversaries? PULLING AN AIRPLANE!

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the dwarves (40 of them) were tied to a massive harness, as was the elephant, and each had their own seperate airplane to pull. The little people almost pulled it out, but the rule was to pull the front wheel across the finish line, a feat the elephant accomplished with ease. It was truly a great moment for dwarf/elephantine atheleticsim.

Just when I thought "man, no TV show will ever answer the question of who can pull an airplane futher, midgets or an elephant," the brilliant minds at Fox did so. Thank you, Fox, and keep that coming!

Hopefully the next installment will test a blind man's driving ability against that of a panther.....

Sounds like a swell time indeed  Haven't heard one positive word about the show yet, just glad that I'm not the type to watch such trainwrecks of a show. Just remembered that line from the mouth of Bart Simpson "We can always sell it to Fox; they'll show anything!"
True fricken dat!

heard of the 'glutton bowl'? i think it aired early last year on fox. from all accounts it crossed food eating contests with wwf style antics. apparently food was dropped down on plates from above and each charcter had some banter at the start of the contest where they would yell 'you going down, i'm da shiot!' apparently, the butter eating was the grossest competition.. :(

oh goody, i found a quote.. "This gut-busting, eat-'til-you-drop, two-hour special pits 40 larger-than-life contestants against each other in unique competitive eating challenges. In the early rounds, competitors square off in a challenge to see how much or how fast they can consume. The winner in each round earns a spot in the finals, which will be an unbelievable, all-out gorge-fest with a big cash prize. The qualifying round categories will range from huge bowls of mayonnaise to beef tongue to sticks of butter. The final round -- not for the faint of heart or weak of stomach -- will include a surprise"delicacy", and won't end until only one competitor is left standing on the special GLUTTON BOWL #1: THE WORLD'S GREATEST EATING COMPETITON Thursday, Feb 21 (8:00- 10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. (SP-0208) (TV-PG)"

Wow, I can't wait for the 'general knowlege' round. Joe Sixpack vs a gibbon...gibbon leads till Joe claws it back in the 'sports trivia' section (oweing to gibbon's lamentable lack of knowledge of baseball stats)?

(warning, this post may contain cheap stereotypes)

I loved how the host keep reinforcing the fact that "little people" were pulling the plane: "Look at those little people go!" "Those little people are really giving the elephant a run for its money!", etc.
