I was thinking of a 'whos the bigger wreck' poll - shaun ryder or michael jackson. But decided it was in dubious taste.
I had to say "they killed factory" simply because Tony "Dickhead" Wilson sunk so much money into them. They're alright, but too hippie-ish for me to get seriously into. Plus 24HPP portrays them as just assholes, so that may affect my judgement.

Too ... hippie-ish???!! ![]()
You sure?! ![]()
Low-life scumbags, surely? But made some blinding tunes in their day (Kuff Dam, Tart Tart, Do It Better, etc).
Sadly, got worse as they attracted a wider audience.
I still don't get that 'hippie-ish' line, mind. The English equivalent of trailer trash, and they knew it.
Well, for me they always sounded great. I don't care if they ruined Factory - probably they really did, but the boss answers for that.
They got a few songs that make my day: "Sunshine & Love", "24HPP", "Wrote For Luck", "Judge Fudge", "Kinky Afro", etc.
And with Martin Hannett they've absolutely ruled.
Happy Mondays are my 4th favourite band, after NO, JD and A Certain Ratio.
And thanx for Bez being just... Bez! ![]()

By "hippie-ish" I meant "prone to taking drugs when they should be recording". Or something like that. They might be better described as English "rednecks", I suppose.
Fair play to them. For a gang of Salford scallies they made some blinding music. Kuff Dam,Do It Better,24HR PP, WFL & Step On all faves of mine.
they're alright. a few good songs...which are infectious. i couldn't get 24 hour party people out of my head today.
i've only got double easy, the u.s. singles.
lots of filler (about 2/3 of it is filler), and this being somewhat of a best of...i don't think i'll be investing in any more mondays records.![]()
they're good, but not GREAT.
The Monday's were absolute top class - as anyone who saw them between 1985-1988 will testify. Their music at the time was truly different to all the indie shite around.
After Pills and Thrills they became a bit cartoon like which is a shame as their other stuff was truly magnificent and 'alternative' to what anybody else was doing in the mid-late 80's.
At the time it was quite difficult to comprehend that a band like the Mondays would ever get onto mainstream TV. Not many bands have released classics like Freaky Dancin, Kuff Dam, Tart Tart, Wrote for Luck etc. Over the years Shaun Ryder's antics and the media's portrayal have overshadowed somewhat just what an excellent band they were.
Was a measure of their popularity when they played to a sell out crowd at the MEN Arena in April '99 after an absence of 7 years.
Great songs, shite attitude (even though that is what made the songs). More fool Wilson for not stopping them waste everything Factory had built (though New Order weren't exactly blameless with their Ibiza sojourn). Live 86-89 they were excellent. More success breeds more drugs though, I suppose.
Happy Mondays top class, personally I thought their attitude was magic, they were misunderstood Timbo:D I love all the albums except fer the catastrophe that was Yes Please, from the early strains of Freaky Dancin and Kuff Dam all the way up till the end of Pills N Thrills (plus Judge Fudge & Stinkin Thinkin) they were the dogs bollocks. One of the best days of my life was spent at Elland Road in 91. Their music developed as they did, until of course Ryder's drug habit became too much. With classic songs like WFL, Loose Fit, Kinky Afro, Do It Better, Lazyitis.....but to name a few, the band will always hold a special place inside, I also got to see em again for the comback tour in 98, but that was just a case of trying to get my teenage years back. Great band, but obviously not as good as the Order;)
I love to listen Monday records, they killed Factory Records, be that as it may, A Damm good band.
I say "Damn good but not up there with our lads". Then again, who could ever hope to compete with NO? Answer: no-one! :D

good point. ;)
What do you expect if you give a bunch of hooligans TOO much cash.Damn fine songs though. But if you give SHUGZV,GRIGORI and me loads of dosh we could have had FACTORY grind to an halt in about 3 days!
Made a bloody good story but destroyed the GREATEST record label for me.
Sad but true!
Rocket Mick...FACTORY IS CLOSED.:D
