I would like to offer prayers to the brave astronauts and their families at this time of tragedy.

May the astronauts now be at the right hand of the Father.

May the Father give comfort and solace to the families.

Being out late last night, I was a bit groggy when I turned on the TV and saw the coverage this morning, and at first tried to think if it was the anniversary of the Challenger's accident or something. Took me a couple of seconds to find that I was mistaken. :(

My condolonces to the families of the astrounauts at this terrible time. :(

i don't know what to say. seeing the space shuttle lift off is one of the most beautiful things in the world. you can see it from our roof. this is terrible.

Yes, it is a very sad day.

These things make you feel human, and respect things that other humans are doing to advance things for our race.

The drawback to me, is, there is so much media saturation following a tragedy of this sort. Everyone of our U.S. media outlets is drawn toward "outcoveraging" a catastrophe. From 9 a.m. last morning, when the transmissions were lost, until 8 p.m. last night, we were drowning here in the U.S. with media coverage that was sickifly glorifying the event as to say "here is another tragedy for you to wallow in, please accept our network as the acceptable prayer network, NOW! We'll watch over you, just trust us."

It seems that the media is now trying to outpackage advertisers and marketers. And, to me, it's seemed that for so long. Maybe it's now that's it's just so obvious. And pathetic.

You can do what I did.. yes, I watched it once, then didn't listen to the news at all.

I had enough.. I don't want to think about it for the next two weeks and then go to something else.

Over exposure is one thing, I'd a very sad incident, but I sure don't want to watch it in every news show for the next 14 days, so you can fight back the over exposure by.. not watching! reading about it might be a little easier.

As for the media saturation: Don't you think it's a bit too soon to see animation of "what went wrong"? That's almost sickening.

Sadly the need to find someone to blame will mean the loss of life will become almost secondary.

I work in the space industry, and have had many dealings over the last five years with representatives from NASA and also their partners at the Goddard Space Flight Centre.

I was fortunate enough to see Atlantis go up whilst setting up for an Inmarsat 3 launch (You never see you own launch, always the one before it!) which was quite something. No-one gives a toss about commercial satellite launches, but the sense of national pride I perceived for that shuttle launch was surprising.

I'm not about to claim that myself or any of my colleagues are in any way directly affected by this tragedy, but it does make it seem a lot more than just another news story to me.
