Drowned your chips in Sarsons malt vinegar recently?

I'm really pissed off with Sarsons because its been twice in the last two days now that its happened. The vinegar bottle used to have a screw cap which you unscrewed and then inverted the bottle and shook the vinegar through the nozzle that was in the neck of the bottle. But what have the bastards done but redesigned the cap? Now there is a flip top covering the small nozzle so instead of unscrewing anything you just flip off the cap which is still partly attached to the bottle and shake out the vinegar. Of course those of us who have for the last 20 years habitually screwed the top off the bottle find this habit awfully difficult to break with the result that we unscrew the whole of the top and cap and nonchanantly tip half the contents of the bottle over the chips. Now a few drops of vinegar is a pleasant enhancement to a meal but 10 fluid ounces? Worse still, the vinegar invariably overflows the plate and ends up in your lap. Has anyone else suffered this embarrassing pants wetting scenario so that when I write to Sarsons to complain I can tell them I am not the only bozo who takes a dim view of their tinkering with tradition?

i had a friend who habitually put all his fries in a bowl and covered 'em with vinegar. the bowl was for the added amount of vinegar you could have. literally filled the bowl half-way, very odd.

My ex accidentally put salt in my tea once instead of sugar. I don't need to expand on the "ex" bit surely ?

Good news for vinegar stained pants sufferers!!!!!! Just bought a new bottle of SMV and am delighted to note that at the top of the bottle the label bears the legend "FLIP LID" Now I have no excuse. Rejoice.

cant believe you dug that one up! so you go through a bottle in 3 months - or was this quicker than normal due to aforementioned spillage incidents?

Haven't kept accurate records unfortunately but strongly suspect the rate of usage has dramatically increased due to the redesign of the lid. Will keep an eye out for the Company results to see a vast hike in profits announced. Bastards.

have consumed vinegar at three peoples houses recently & all had flip top lids on their sarsons bottles (inc my house natch) indicating to me that the bottles were either very old or purchased in the last few months.

perhaps it was a rogue batch intended for the export market that didn't have the flip top lid?

This type of serious research is most impressive. Did these other bottles have the warning FLIP LID emblazoned across the top of the label?

I see it more as a boast, or instruction than a warning - i feel the warnings should have been on the older bottles..

seem to recall a collar label on the bottle proudly claiming flip lid
