ok, i need help and i can't find an answer to this effing question anywhere:

i'm trying to save .gifs to the 'my pictures' folder on my computer (i have windows XP) and suddenly the only option i have for saving is bitmap. this has never happened before. what the hey?

any suggestions? anyone? :mad:

Haven't come across that problem before (my OS is ME), so I don't know if this thread from the alt.windows.xp newsgroup will help you or not, it's the most recent I could find.

damn! lately, the same thing happens to me and its incredibly frustrating. seems to be only a recent thing though. because a couple old files are .jpg, like my interpol avatar.

Save them as bitmaps, then go into Paint, open them and save them as JPEGS...... you shouldn't lose any quality.

Save them as bitmaps, then go into Paint, open them and save them as JPEGS...... you shouldn't lose any quality.

Yep thats often the quickest way saving them via other programs which allow you to save as a different format.

I do this when i want to convert a .wav to .mp3 i just load the .wav into Wavelab and bingo it lets me save it as .mp3!

Sounds like a broken file association to me. You didn't install any image editing software lately? The fix should be to right-click on any GIF file, select "Open with...", then select Internet Explorer from the list of programs and tick the "Always open etc..." box - that's if my diagnosis is correct.

It's most likely your problem is caused by # 1 but it may be one of the others.
