Saving Patrick (the boy) Ryan

Let this be an open forum where Pastie describes (in great detail) the film 'Saving Pastie Normans'. I'm hoping by now the Amazon Woman has supplied P with the goodies and he's viewed the film with a great big bag of corn chips smothered with hot mustard and a whole dish of crepes and miscellaneous hot dog juices (crisps in English).

It did in fact arrive, but I'm afraid I have not yet viewed the entire opus, H. I know you will find it hard to believe that I could watch part but not all, but it had competition for my attention, and I'm sure you would not want me to watch with less than full attention. The opening beach battle was certainly as memorable as it had been billed. I confess that it arrived together with lighter fare, and I took the easy way out by watching the lighter offering first.

I was too eager.

Take your time P, don't rush it. Get yourself nice and settled. What was the lighter offering, a film with some fine and memorable song and dance numbers?

I am somewhat embarrassed to reply, H, that the lighter fare was a made-for-TV film called I've Been Waiting For You. In what you might call the teen horror genre, although since it was a TV movie, the horror was pretty tame. No songs or dances.

I've tried, but I am unable to conjure a reason why you might have purchased this film. Nostalgia?

On another tack, add Donny Darko to your list of wants next time your in the mood for a good movie. Hibster made reference to its quality; he was correct. (nice semi).

Is horror your bag?

I saw the recent references to DD but didn't fully take them in; what sort of picture is this? A western, perhaps?

When I was visiting my friend the surround sound wizard recently, he showed me a Barry Levinson film called Liberty Heights, featuring not yet Oscared Adrien Brody. Much more interesting was the character of AB's younger brother, who, for example, as a Jewish teenager in Baltimore in the early 1950's dresses as Hitler for Halloween and pursues a black classmate to be his girlfriend. The actor was also interesting, and he appears in I've Been Waiting etc.

That's quite an insight Pat. Perhaps to your own mind.

I've seen B Levinson's credits appear on some fairly lacklustre efforts of late, this 60's phase seems far more suited to late evening viewing with a bag of pork scratchings. What with Hitler's envoy pursuing a black chamber maid in Manhattan.

I've heard of Liberty Heights, but not your Amazon purchase. I'm still left wanting as for your reasons for adding more to the initial order 'Shaving Ryan's Private Area'.

Your friend P, the wizard, could he have picked any more better film with which to showcase his surround sound system? - I very much doubt it.

Unfortunately DD is not a western, although that would be open for debate to any critters who live life similar to J Wayne who was unable to discern real life from chasing 'In'juns'.

DD is a bit more contemporary, with many scenes quite scary and a belter of a story. Quite mysterious, and with the bonus there are references to rabbits.

Have you seen Watership Down? - it's a bit like the English version of Falling Down.

Well, H, as I said before, SPR seemed like it might be a little grim, and one needs to expand horizons a little bit as well, follow fortuity, be open to new experiences, rather than just listening to PCL over and over, pleasureful as that is, of course.

I believe we also watched The Music Man.

So is DD in the gangster genre?

Donnie Darko is a teenager, with an enviable IQ. The story follows his 28 journey through an interesting month in his life where many things occur - some beyond his control, others within his capacity.

Within the film some of the highlights are: Time travel, and Donny's unexpected meeting with the author of a book on the subject which comes into affect in the final moments.

A metal rabbit

The humorous fact that Donny has the ability to tease his teachers (after a while, you wish you were Donny)

A car incident

A jet engine falling from the sky

All in all its pretty damn fine. Well worth hiring, although it may be easier to purchase via mail delivery.

I hope I haven't spoilt the film for anyone.

Seeing Programme Repeats lasts a little longer in the memory banks P, there's no denying that. If you've seen Memento, DD is along similar lines. It is most definitely the best film we have seen in a good while.

Watership Down and Kes would be an excellent double-purchase if you wanted a gentle night in ... with a massive bag of snouts.

I did not know this until I watched it.

Noah the boy Whyle also makes an appearance, as does The Dirty Dancer himself, the once ubiquitous Patrick Swayze.

Combined with Spots, it makes for un-easy reading.

Do not be put off.

For what it's worth, the atypical Hollywood stars only add depth to the unknown 'major' players of the movie.
