A mildly amusing mathematical trick

OUT TO DINNER MATHMATICS

This is pretty neat how it works out.

DON'T CHEAT BY SCROLLING DOWN FIRST

It takes less than a minute.......

Work this out as you read.

Don't cheat and read the bottom until you've worked through it!

1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like to have dinner out. (try for more than once but less than 10)

2. Multiply this number by 2 (Just to be bold)

3. Add 5. (for Sunday)

4. Multiply it by 50 - I'll wait while you get the calculator................

5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1753.... If you haven't, add 1752..........

6.. Now subtract the four digit year that you were born.

You should have a three digit number .

The first digit of this was your original number I.e., how many times you want to have eat out each week.)

The next two numbers are...

YOUR AGE! (Oh YES, it IS!!!!!)

THIS IS THE ONLY YEAR (2003) IT WILL EVER WORK, SO SPREAD IT AROUND WHILE IT LASTS. IMPRESSIVE, ISN'T IT?

(it took me a while to work the equations out, but it is pretty good, if I may say so myself)

MATHEMATICAL PROBLEM - NOT FOR BEGINNERS!!! Not easy, especially not for non-technicians and non-scientists: Think carefully - and DON'T cheat!!! A Mathematics Professor at the University of Barcelona constructed this mathematical problem:

A mother is 21 years older than her child, and in 6 years the child will be 5 times younger than the mother. Question: Where is the father????? This problem can be solved, it's not as difficult as it seems. Don't cheat - you can solve it mathematically. Consider the question "Where is the father" carefully.

Solution: Assuming that the child is X years old today and its mother is Y years old ... We know, that the mother is 21 years older then the child.

Conclusion: X + 21 = Y

We know too, that in 6 years the child will be 5 times younger then the mother.

So we can implement: 5 (X + 6) = Y + 6

We replace Y by X and begin to resolve

5 (X + 6) = X + 21 + 6

5X + 30 = X + 27

5X - X = 27 - 30

4X = -3

X = -3/4

The child is today -3/4 years old, which is = -9 Months old.

Watching it mathematically, we just proved in this second, that the mother is right now being laid!!!!

Solution: The father is +/- on [behind or under] the mother!!!

wow. that's wild. of course i have no idea how the hell it works because i find nothing mildly amusing about mathematics, but i'll play along anyway and ooh and aah in my blissful ignorance.

i'll never know how people come up with this sh*t. they probably get hundreds of thousands of dollars or pounds or euros or pesos or yen in grants. c'est la vie.
