A boring, middle of the road opinion! But sadly I agree entirely. Siamese Dream was pretty good, other SP albums have a bit of good stuff and quite a lot of awful stuff.
I like his singing on the studio version of Turn My Way, but not on the live versions I've heard.
And he looked ridiculous in the later SP days. OK so does Barny with his 'dancing' and his Victor Meldrew specs, but in BCs case it was deliberate, Barny can't help it.
I know I'll probably get shot down for this, but I'm a bigger SP fan than new order fan - I said it! In my opinion, Gish was SP's best album, in terms of guitar work. SD was lyrically good, but mostly got attention because BC admitted to playing all the guitar and bass parts on it. Mellon Collie and the infinite sadness was good, but too bombastic occasionally and had a lot of filler songs on it. Plus, the singles weren't terribly unique, with the exception of "Zero" and "tonight, tonight." Adore, actually, kind of reminds me of a hybrid between a new order and a cure album. It's probably the muddy sounds, moody lyrics, and the usage of a computer over guitars. Machina I was kind of trite, but Machina II was better. In their first 2 albums, his singing wasn't that whiny, at least on the albums. But after, his voice, at times, became too whiny and he stopped doing decent guitar lines. On Machina, you won't hear anything as good as "I am one" or "Bury Me," both from Gish. However, I haven't bought Zwan's album, because I'm in college, I'm poor, and I basically live off my meal card, thus I've had no money to buy any albums, other than the first half of Substance that I bought for $0.10 and PSB's Please for $2, both at thrift stores. I'll be home in 2 weeks, so maybe I'll buy it then. I guess I could download parts of it from Kazaa, but that'd spoil the whole experience of buying the album.
That's enough for now.
