I reckon they should join Englands finest, but in Division One first, NOT the Premiership. If theyre as good as they seem against the hallowed likes of Livingston & Motherwell, then they should be made to battle it out with Crewe & Stoke City first, rather than going straight to the big-time & Man United....
I reckon both Celtic & Rangers would win promotion in their first season in England, but would find it difficult to finish anywhere more than mid-table in the Premiership
Both straight into the Premiership, just imagine seeing Man Utd. v Celtic or Rangers v Arsenal every season. It would confirm the Premiership as the most exciting (but alas not the highest quality) league in Europe.
This season their performances have shown that they would be in the top 10 in the Premiership, and probably higher. It would, however, force a dramatic change to Scottish professional football, but I think that there are too many professional clubs in England too, and it's only a matter of time before economic realty makes the number of clubs shrink.

Did you miss the victories over Blackburn and Liverpool, James? Who I believe both finished 'more than mid-table' in our Premiership this year?
It's not gonna happen though, is it? Haven't UEFA said as much? The First Division did vote to include them with something like a 20-4 majority last season but it has to be a unanimous decision amongst chairmen in that league so the result was thrown out.
Truth is, if Rangers and Celtic did get into the Premiership their TV revenue would increase ten-fold and they would immediately be able to attract a better class of footballer because the standards of opposition would immediately be raised (I'm sure most World Class players would rather play the likes of Arsenal and Newcastle week in/out, than, no offence, the likes of Kilmarnock or Dundee).
So, the Celtic and Rangers that did ever join the Premiership wouldn't necessarily be the teams we know today, but super-improved versions of that theme with even more financial clout and muscle. Scary prospect!
This isn't going to happen.
But it is interesting to contemplate their imagined standing if they were to enter the Premier league (Division One? - why? - so they would waste a season).
I'd say both teams would battle and attain a credible 3rd, 4th, 5th spot. Arsenal, Man. U, Newcastle would possibly keep their usual mantle.
Unless, as Al points out, they are newly funded by international interest. A few imports would spark more of a competition.

In fairness, you should start off in the Doc. Marten's League after completing a tour of the 5-a-side circuit.
IF THEY COME IN THE ENGLISH LEAGUE THEY SHOULD BE PUT IN THE UNIBOND FIRST DIVISION SO THAT THE OPPOSITION IS THE SAME AS THAT IN SCOTLAND.
the scottish premiership can be pretty boring with rangers and celtic winning everything (with the exception of one or two years when possibly hearts might pull a fast one on them). ho hum. and they're clubs of international quality playing clubs that are nowhere close to being so. needless to say, it's hardly a challenging atmosphere for their respective talent. then again, perhaps some of the excitement of the rivalry might be lost if they entered the english premiership? who knows.
sure, rangers and celtic in the english premiership will probably never happen, but what would i like to see? the two teams let loose in the premiership. but only if inverness caledonian thistle can come along, as well. just because they have the best name.

Maybe it won`t happen, but I just posted the poll as a sort of 'What If' scenario.
I didnt forget about Celtics (admittedly impressive) victories over Blackburn & Liverpool in the UEFA Cup, but in all fairness, all they did was prove that they could better firstly, a run-of-the-mill mid-table team (Rovers) & a highly inconsistent Liverpool side.
I just think Celtic & Rangers would have a harder time maintaining good results against the likes of Arsenal & Manchester United. But being in Division 1 wouldnt be a waste of time if one of the Glasgow clubs won the Championship, & the other the Play-off Trophy, would it?

Yes, that's spot on. I'm sure Rangers and Celtic with current squads would struggle to finish in the top five in the Premiership, but the point is that by moving to England they would be in a position to, erm, "fulfill their potential", for want of a better phrase.
Playing in a better standard of league, a league more attractive to world class players, and a league with access to obscene amounts of money - the type of money which couldn't possibly exist in Scottish football due to the size of the market - would greatly improve their ability to compete at the highest level.
Given that the Old Firm make up two of the three biggest clubs in Britain, their potential on a bigger stage, in a bigger market, is immense.
That said, I don't care what happens to them. They're both scum, they can do as they please!

Yup, aint gonna happen. No question over their ability to compete mind. The best we can hope for is a re-structuring of the European competitions, giving them more prominence over the domestic leagues. You can see it happening already with the way the Champions League has developed since '92.
