Justin Timberlake, lead singer of Nsync and a solo star in his own right, was found dead today at the tender age of 40. Mr. Timberlake was staying as a guest at Michael Jackson's NeverNeverland Ranch near Santa Barbara, California. The cause appears to be foul play.
As of press time, police had no offical suspect, but one inside source reports that Bubbles the chimp is a strong suspect. Paw prints and animal feces were found on the body, police spokesmen say, indicating a primate intruder.
Details are sketchy, but the facts known are this: Mr. Timberlake arrived on Saturday, May 24, to celebrate the Memorial Day weekend with Mr. Jackson. Timberlake also planned to hold a charity concert for the Santa Barbara Veterans of Foreign Wars on Monday. Reportedly, Mr. Timberlake had an altercation with Bubbles on Sunday the 25th, when the two were seen struggling over a bananna. Timberlake lost this apparent conflict, and retreated to his room later in the afternoon. Mr. Jackson suggested Bubbles try and make amends for the altercation, and Timberlake came down for dinner with Mr. Jackson, his friends Elizabeth Taylor and Brooke Shields, and the skeleton of the "Elephant Man", 19th-century freak-show regular John Merrick. After an after-dinner duet of "Ebony and Ivory," Mr. Timberlake retired to his bed chambers at approximately 9:15 PM pacific time. That was the last anyone saw of Mr. Timberlake before Mr. Jackson came to wake him at 7:30 PM the following evening. Mr. Jackson told the police that Timberlake's door was locked, and that he could just make out the sound of what appeared to be a chimp laughing and tossing "poopies" around the room.
A male servent, Paul McCartney, was summoned to break down the door, and it was then, some five hours after Mr. Jackson's initial attempt to enter Mr. Timberlake's room, that his remains were found.
Police estimate that Mr. Timberlake had been dead for some time before the room was entered. There were signs of a struggle and possible sexual assault on Mr. YTimberlake's person. A banana was jammed in a "sensitive area", the police spokesperson said in his statement Tuesday, hinting that it might be a clue as to the killer's identity.
Fans in the immediate area have reacted with stun and disbelief. The other members of Nsync are making plans to return from their "Who Needs Justin anyway?" tour in Europe for memorial services planned Thursday. Mr. Timberlake's off-and-on girlfriend, Britney Spears, was informed Tuesday morning as she prepared to take tips from the patrons at the Lucky Sailor adult club near LAX. Ms. Spears could not be reached for comment at press time.
Mr. Timberlake is survived by his parents, Herschel and Myra Schlomowitz, and a younger brother, teen singing sensation Aaron Carter. Services are planned for friends and family only at the Hollywood Bowl on Thursday at 7:56 PM Pacific standard time.
