what does he actually do in DM anyways? everytime i see them in concert, he barely play his keyboard, and when he does, it only looks like he's playing only one key. Most of the time is see him standing or clapping.

True, I can't imagine much of an album coming from a man who simply turns little knobs and then incites the audience to clap. I seem to recall him saying in 101 that he was a manager of sorts. Or maybe they just don't want to get rid of him because he was one of the founding members. Oh well, more power to him.
He's the band manager actually.
But it's true you never see him play live.
My memory is unsure, he wasn't actually touring with the band on the Exciter tour, was he?
I remember reading somewhere that it was vince clarke AND Andrew fletcher that started up DM. They were school friends or something

You better believe Fletch was there. I laughed everytime he stepped out and tried to get the audience to clap. He always plays with them live; he does something, tinkering of some kind behind the keyboards.

From the One Night in Paris DVD (good one btw), I'm a bit disappointed to see that he doesn't even bother to sing backing vocals anymore.
I miss the old backing vocals formed by Martin, Andy and Alan Wilder. For instance: on Blasphemous Rumours.

Why, he's none other than the Bez of Depeche Mode.
....or, if you wanna be really dishonourable, the Linda McCartney (God rest her soul).

Good ole Fletch has his own record label called Toast Hawaii. The label's first and only signing is a girl duo Client. Some kind of electro-pop thing.
I don't think Flecth could dance as well as Bez.

I'm beginning to speculate as to what exactly could be on this solo venture of his, considering his function in the band as so-called "vibe-maker" or "crowd-conductor".
Probably ten tracks or so filled with nothing but the sound of handclaps. Albeit at different tempos.
Perhaps he could have Bobby Gillespie guesting on said album (after all, they did tour together once and Bobby when interviewed blanched at the memory of DM's infamous drug intake during that Devotional USA tour) and both of them simply record themselves clapping completely out of time just like they apparently do on stage.....
Just a thought..... ;)
