don & shug,

you're really close to a good, convenient subway line, the one i used to live on: the 1, 2, 3 and 9 broadway line. it heads most everywhere you'd want to go and remember that NYC subways run 24 hours. the 1 and 9 stop at 79th street and broadway and the 2 and 3 express trains (and the 1 and 9) at 72nd and broadway. the upper west side is residential and there aren't any 'attractions' up there (except for the american museum of natural history), but you'll be walking distance from central park (DON'T GO IN THERE AT NIGHT! I'M SERIOUS!) and the metropolitan museum of art is on the other side of the park on the upper east side. all the trains get you downtown, and city blocks are short going north and south (numbered streets) and a little longer between the avenues (east and west). the village is on the southern end of the island, so you'd take the subway. the same goes for the statue of liberty and ellis island. the subway line is back to normal since 9/11 (it's been diverted around the destroyed stations) at the southern tip of manhattan so you can get to the ferries again easily. you could walk to times square from your hotel (about 30 blocks) and it would take maybe 30-40 minutes or so, or you could take the subway. the empire state building is roughly the same distance (maybe a bit closer), a bit northeast from times square. i've never actually been to the top because i always went to the top of the world trade center since it was the tallest building in the city and had such magnificent views of the harbour and city, but now the empire state is the tallest again, so i suggest going to the top for a great view. the subway maps look really confusing, but they're actually easy to manage and don't run on the zone system like london. one fare (now up to $2.00), one ride anywhere in the four boroughs (not staten island).

note: most tourists don't feel comfortable taking the subway in new york. i don't really know why, because it's cheap, fast and safe, even at night (yes, safe, no matter what death wish would have you believe!). however, many people find new york very intimidating and frightening the first time they visit and they don't want to go into it's bowels! you could take taxis everywhere, but it's much more expensive, traffic in new york is horrendous and you're staying pretty far from most things and the good nightlife, so take the subway, you'll be fine. also, because of the recent security situation in the city, all subway stations have HEAVY police and military presence at all hours, so they're especially safe now and there are always people taking trains at all hours anyway.

by the way, i'm hoping to come up and if i do, i'll be staying with my best friend in brooklyn. i'll have absolutely nothing to do during the day since all of my friends will be working--so if you want a tour guide, someone who knows the city really well, i'd be glad to show you around!

Shifty's had a bad week hasn't he? - Although Seagull Peterson flew past his nest, CC Christopher Jones all but challenged him to haggis at 9 paces.

Funny, because (and don't tell him this), he does seem a very amiable chap. I put it down to his use of the 'twizzle' word, which we all took in good Scottish faith, but to the uninitiated may have seemed a bit naughty.

Taking all of that into account, I still think its a good idea to pounce on his erratic double-post problem whilst we all have the chance.

Maybe he good upgrade from his 1993 PC?

There's a strong rumour that me and thy lass will be attending The Matrices tonight. I'll obviously report any findings.

 Nah - I agree with what you said the other day Harry, sometimes the boards DO need a bit of misunderstanding, to keep the place fresh. Anyone who has visited here for the last 3 years would understand my "colourful" language.....and the fact that I fucking hate repeating myself.

Barney himself said on Star Test, that Patience was not one of his virtues.....I'm exactly the same:lol:

aah, but has he been on the new york city subway? it's a whole different story from the london tube. trust me, i've lived in both places and the london tube is like buckingham palace, whereas the NYC subway is akin to a smelly trailer. and i do mean smelly--but that's part of its charm. plus, the NYC subway is much larger with many times more stations!

as for central park...erm, unless you were a drunk lad in full celtic kit (not that anyone would know what the hell that was, anyway) in a fully armoured tank, don't go in there at night! trust me sweetie, i have a feeling the type of person who hangs out in the park at night would mark you out for live bait no matter what you wore.... the daytime is fine, however. it's a lovely park and a great place to spend a lazy afternoon. i especially love to watch the in-line skaters crash into one another and the super rich women on the upper east side jogging along in their fur coats (seriously!). the latter you'll probably miss since it's the summer. damn.

just bought a flight. will be in the city from july 9-16.

your friendly tour guide, 006.

One of the most talented football players ever, sadly one that choose to squander his talent with beer and chocolate and who was plagued by injuries as well. I am sure someone will be able to post a picture.

I'm up fer the Elvis Costello gig, sounds like a good craic:nod: Not too keen on De La Soul, but I can be easily persuaded:lol:

006 - can you not just pay to get in when you get there?

it will probably be sold out by then. but since it's $50 a pop, my best friend and i, in our sensitive financial states, have decided that we may just sit outside the paid area and listen. nalo (my friend, rhymes with halo) says that you can hear everything from outside the ticketed area and she usually just brings a blanket and sits and listens from another location if there's a paid show going on. damn prices!

as for de la soul...you can't come to new york and pass up seeing one of the city's most influential and innovative hip-hop groups for free!

i was just chillin' to '3 feet high and rising' last night in preparation. aah, the memories... can't wait! 3 feet high, de la soul is dead... and from what i've been reading, they were quite influential to the late '80s manchester scene, as well, according to some of the bands. i can see that....

by the way...wen, when are you and the mrs. floating into town?

De la soul eh? I guess I could be up for that. I dunno too much about them other than I know that they are influential in the Hip Hop world, which I know nothing about. They did a Mac commericial, So they are definitely cool :D.

Me and my wife will be in on Friday the 11th, probably by noon. We have a few people to meet up with that day. I was hoping to meet up with everyone on Saturday the 12th.My wife will probably go off and do her own thing for the day. She's not much of a drinker. But let me know what all of your plans are.
