Because we sure as hell haven't done what we said we would do: capture or kill Osama Bin Laden and his "buddy" Saddam Hussein.
Granted, both Afghanistan and Iraq are better off without their respective goofballs in charge, but the point is "Just where the hell are they?" and "How can we be sure we got'em?". You'll notice neither question has been answered yet and most likely won't for a long time to come.
I suppose I'm bitter about how the Bush Adminstration forced a war with Iraq because, well dammit, "Iraq has weapons of mass destruction". "WMD" is apparently Pentagonese for "we're still pissed Daddy Bush wouldn't let us take Iraq" (which, btw, would have probably kept this current bullshit from going down), and I'd like to see a show of hands for how many "WMD"s we've actually found. I thought so, none...that doesn't piss me off as much as the fact that no one's willing to say "We fucked up". Obviously Bush and his hawks would be putting their own heads in the noose if they did so, but that'd be a hell of a lot more preferable to downplaying what was apparently a big mistake.
I'm not saying we shouldn't have liberated the two countries we've gone into from the tyranny of Laden and Hussein, it's just that the justification for the latter campaign is so questionable as to be almost laughable, if not for the American lives lost in what seems like a pointless conquest. But we've got Iraqi oil, so I suppose there's a good side to it (btw, I'm being sarcastic).
And all the "Love it or Leave it" SOBs really piss me off...since when did dissent equal treason? Sure, if some shithead says "Let's kill the Prez!", that's something we can all hopefully agree is wrong. But when some lead singer from a band I don't even care for gets wrung through the right-wing media as a "traitor" because she says she's ashamed Bush is from the same state, I get angry that I have to defend someone I don't even like. The Dixie Chicks make terrible music, in my opinion, but Natalie Maines has every right to say whatever the fuck she says. Free speech isn't something Americans should pay lip service to while they castigate someone whose opinion they just don't like. There has been a stifling of national debate since 9/11, and the very fact that the Iraqi war sure as hell didn't nab Saddam or really provide any justification for going in so far may be the very thing needed to undo the "Age of Shut the Hell Up"
Anyway, this is one "Angry American" (to borrow the subtitle from that jackass Toby Keith's nauseating song) who wants to know why we went into Iraq, why we haven't caught Laden and Saddam if we were so much in search of them, and where are these WMDs that Herr Rumsfeld and Colin "No Credibility Anymore" Powell were so sure Iraq possessed. Something tells me none of those questions will be answered anytime soon.
