Amazing song. Certainly in their 10 best or so. Not much to discuss really, except to say that that Rammstein cover of it is stupid as all hell.

re: His Holiness, I've never actually heard Rammstein's cover, but your description is precisely how I imagined it would be. When I saw the tribute album listing, that was enough to make me decide to give it a wide berth.

My roommate last year was a German major, so he listened to lots of German music (much to my discontent), including Rammstein. He also had the video for that song, which I must say seemed only "too German," seeing as it was comprised of footage from Leni "Triumph of the Will" Riefenstal's [sic] film "Olympia." Beautifully filmed footage, but unfortunately it was created basically as Nazi propaganda to showcase the Aryan athelete. Maybe not the best choice of cultural material for a German metal band to draw upon....

what i'm tring to get at is they are a major embarrasment. and such great lyrics ;) .

Rammstein may not be the most original band in the world, but they put on a magnificent live performance - flaming metal jackets, squirting dildos, a gimp and a plastic rowboat for crowdsurfing - what more do you want? Add a huge, muscular, hairy German lead singer with the stare of a serial killer who screams about his mummy and hating everybody in the world - classic stuff.

There is a few good though.. Never Let Me Down Again by the Smashing Pumpkins, World in My Eyes by The Cure & Policy of Truth by Dishwalla..

But the Rammstein cover is indeed horrible.

Just managed to "get hold" of Smashing Pumpkins cover of NLMDA and must agree it's pretty good. Impressed by Portishead's "Waiting For The Night" too.

The Hooverphonic version of "Shake the Disease" isn't terrible, although the female singer still just doesn't sound as girly as Martin does in the original ("understand me...").

As a Rammstein fan, I must admit, Stripped is one of their weaker tracks. Of course, don't diss the group until you have some knowledge of their music. Suggested by me for download:

the strings at the end of stripped are very close to 'a warm place' (nine inch nails). don't much care for NIN, so i don't know much about what he had to say about this. does anyone know anything?

As DM are my fav. band, I have to agree that Stripped is just a magnificent song.

Concerning the For the Masses tribute, I thought the SP version of NLMDA was boring as hell. Shame Dave loved it too

There were some pretty bloody woeful covers on that tribute album that's for sure - the Rammstein one was fucking hilarious. I piss my pants each time I hear him croak - "Let Me See You St-ripped!!" (deliberately missing off the next four words "...down to the bone" for some godforsaken reason.)

SP's cover was nowhere near as bad as I feared cos I absolutely HATE Corgan's whiney brat voice.

As for Deftones doing "To Have And To Hold" - again they were far mellower than I initially feared.

Fat Bob's Smudged Lipstick Goth Circus could have done better with a different choice of track - perhaps "Halo" or "Fly On The Windscreen".

How come New Order never got to cover "Enjoy The Silence"???

self's cover of 'shame' was cool. i never liked that song, but self came through with an interesting take on it. self is also a very silly band, so i kinda knew what to expect.

A Warm Place is a rip off of a David Bowie track called Crystal Japan. I was shocked the 1st time I listened to The Downward Spiral.

then the strings at the end of 'striped' are as well, or at least close. this is assuming the Bowie tune predates "black celebration."

Stripped is one of the best tracks by DM for me, too. And I must confess I liked the Rammstein cover, although I prefer version recorded by "Moni B" - that one is pure nytroglicerine. Has anyone heard it?

i love rammstein, but the cover of stripped sounds like it was sung by eddy munster. as far as that tribute album goes, my favorite cover was failure's enjoy the silence and shake the disease. i like the cure's versin of world in my eyes cause its very trippy. oh, i did see rammstein 3 times before including one in germany, and they DO put on a great fucking live show, the rowboat is may favorite part. my friend holly got some of that giz from his dildo in her eye at the metro in chicago in 98, she was up against the stage. have a good day :):p
