this is the news about kevin doing the soundtrack to sofia copola's new flick and the rerecording of 5 songs left off of 'glider'?

New MBV album after all of this time? Wasn't that one of the warning signs of the final apocalypse?

Somebody pinch me! First the Pixies, now My Bloody Valentine ?!?!? The late 80's old skool noisy indie revival starts here. Let's hope Loop reform, Spacemen 3 kiss and make up, The Undertones split again and rebuild That Petrol Emotion and Bjork rejoins the Sugarcubes. Then maybe even Morrissey and Marr will have another bit of a jangle. It beats putting up with Coldplay and Travis as being the 'indie sound' anyday. (Hope this means we don't get the return of Slowdive and Chapterhouse.)

Just four new songs for a soundtrack. I think My Bloody Valentime are gone forever, i'll just have to listen to "Loveless" over and over again.

Just read the pitchforkmedia story. Decent enough news I s'pose, but nothing to get too excited about - although after the last 12 years, anything is worth getting excited over! Let's just hope it doesn't take 'em another 12 years to finish off the songs though...

Would still prefer some genuine new material, but it's at least a start.

i also read somewhere (though, this maybe gossip) that they where going to do a box set.

what's wrong with slowdive? souvlaki is one of the greatest albums ever! every shogaze revivalist band trys to recapture THAT sound (but always seem to fail misserably).

I'm confused. I read all of the Creation Records Story and they don't mention anything about the glider ep being a full album. Most of what you get out of it is that Kevin Sheilds was taking forever and a half to record loveless and that 'glider' and 'tremelo' were thrown out there to keep everyone in anticipation for an album that just wasn't ready to be released yet.

the thing i heard about glider was that there were other songs that they had trouble getting down to tape. with creation preasuring them to release something, they finaly said "alright, then it gets released as an EP."

i am still trying to find out where i saw this.

Sometimes news comes down the grapevine that's so good you have to spread the word. Otherwise it would be an injustice to humanity. When word came to those of us at Under the Radar that My Bloody Valentine have been holed up in a Berlin studio we couldn't quite believe it. After all, the band hasn't released anything in twelve years. Being the dutiful rock journalists that we are we sought confirmation on the rumor only to be foiled again. Our source on this bit of breaking news wishes to remain strictly anonymous. But he did confirm the buzz.

My Bloody Valentine is finally back in the studio. As it turns out an MBV box set is due out sometime this winter and Kevin Shields, Colin O'Ciosiog and Bilinda Butcher are back in the studio to re-record a few songs for it. No, there will not be a new MBV album, but the band is re-recording 5 songs they had abandoned for the Glider EP. Originally the Glider EP was to be a full-length album, but due to pressures from the record company Shields decided to only release five songs as an EP because the other material wasn't ready to see the light of day. The left over Glider songs were shelved and Shields and company moved on to the never-ending Loveless sessions. As many of you know, after Loveless the band went their separate ways (for whatever speculative reason) and those leftover Glider songs remained on the shelf....until now. Although there has been no confirmation on whether or not vocalist Debbie Googe is also in on the new sessions it is a bona fide fact that My Bloody Valentine will release Glider as a full-length album contained within the new MBV box set, if all goes well.

Is it possible the seeds for a comeback are planted?

In other, more official, My Bloody Valentine related news, Kevin Shields has just scored the new film by Virgin Suicides director Sofia Coppola, entitled Lost In Translation. The movie stars Bill Murray as a fading TV star, Ghost World's Scarlett Johansson, and Giovanni Ribisi, and is described as exploring the relationship between two strangers (Murray and Johansson) who meet and explore the foreign world of Tokyo and life's aspirations. Emperor Norton Records will be putting out the Original Movie Soundtrack on September 9th, which contains two brand new Kevin Shields songs, four of his score pieces, an exclusive track by Virgin Suicides composers Air, as well as songs by Jesus & Mary Chain, Death In Vegas, Squarepusher and Phoenix. Lost In Translation the movie is due in New York and Los Angeles theaters September 19th, and later in the rest of the country.

Thank goodness Sofia Coppola is finally making a new movie, eh? She hasn't put one out since the lovely Virgin Suicides "way back" in '99. From the synopsis above and the talent involved, it should be quite good (fingers crossed).

J&MC, Squarepusher, AND Kevin Shields on the soundtrack to a movie STARING Bill Murray?? fuck... this could rival "ghostbusters" as bill's coolest movie.

Ghostbusters was way better than Rushmore. it is littered with awesome one-liners, it has dan akroyd, harold ramis, AND the guy that played "professor hathiway" (from Real Genius).

I know, but the whole shoegazing movement was the early 90's diluted second wave of bands that followed in My Bloody Valentine/Sonic Youth/Spacemen 3/Loop/ARKane etc's wake that were ok but lacked the innovation but got 5 times the press attention of the originals. I remember it was also nicknamed "The Scene That Celebrates Itself" and NME/Melody Maker used to fill it's pages with their tedious ligging exploits.

And the late 80's revivals continue. Hellfire and damnation, Jane's Addiction are back now!! And sounding rather good, like a ray of sunshine on MTV2 between the dull clouds of Linkin Park and Slipknot. We'll have to have a sweepstake on who's next. I'm hoping Stump get back together or maybe even Cud.

i like "going blank again" better. here in the states, ride gets loads of credit. in fact, mark gardner did a tour of the US a few months back. my band got to open for him, and met him. out of all the touring bands i've openned for, mark was the nicest! There is a solo acoustic album he is releasing (or already released) that he played some tunes off of, but most of his set were songs from "Nowhere" & "Going Blank Again."
