Why didn't any of you tell me these were being rereleased?

They've been out for months now in the UK - the first three albums were reissued in remastered versions with all the B-sides and extra tracks added onto the end - a wise move for fans of their earlier stuff.

23rd July'03 "We Love You - A Fan Tribute to OMD" is still coming very soon. Duplication started last week, so we are on the home stretch. Yeah I noticed the OMD reissues. It pissed me off a bit because early last year I bought 6 OMD CD's in an HMV sale for 3.99 each. (They were one of those bands I liked in the 80s - but you can't afford to buy everything when you're a kid.) Then months later they all get rereleased with loads of extra tracks and already they're down to 4.99 in the sale! And they wonder why people download music from Kazaa & Soulseek - which is exactly where I'll be looking to get the extras.
I've noticed The Cure's CDs have come down to £5 so I'm expecting a big re-release of those to upgrade my old vinyl and tape.
Very impressed with the first 3 OMD albums. They were much more experimentally interesting beyond their singles. Still waiting for "Dazzle Ships" to get reduced.
I find it doubly curious though, that the B-sides on these three reissues have already appeared on a specially packaged B-sides compilation released a couple of years ago - so that's rather odd duplication for completeness's sakes.
I don't know what extra tracks "Dazzle Ships" could bequeath us except maybe the full length versions of "Frenetic Engineering" and "Telegraph".
That B-Sides compilation was one I got for 3.99. It covers their whole career so it's really the band's pick of their favourite standard b-sides. These reissues have more unreleased songs, session tracks, demos etc. For instance that first album has a couple of songs they did with Martin Hannett at Cargo studios.
This seems to be an alarming trend among 80's artists now. Repackage the albums with new extras to get the thirty/fortysomethings to buy them all again under the guise of "trying to appeal to a new generation". Sadly, Elvis Costello is the worst perpetrator. I think his entire back catalogue has come out again with extra 2nd CDs now, just after I'd finally got hold of all the original standard versions. Why they can't put a rarities only CD out I'll never know.
pet shop has pretty much done the same... though, if you own alternative, you have half the stuff (that is worth having) on the 2nd discs.

The Cure are scheduled to re-release their albums next year, each with a bonus disc containing b-sides and other tunes (ala PSB re-issues). Check out the Trilogy DVD packaging and their website for confirmation.
If that's indeed the case then I think we should go for broke and have a COMPLETE 1980s CD-remastering revival!
I mean, the Cure doing this is pretty much inevitable, but this should - and really ought to - pave the way for bands like Joy Div, New Order, Echo and the Bunnymen, and especially the underrated Siouxsie & the Banshees to have ALL their studio albums remastered and reissued with extra tracks - like all their related B-sides, 12" single versions, etc.... if they have never been issued before on CD.
Even the Stranglers have recently had their albums all remastered with extra tracks (B-sides, etc) added to the end of each CD, so it would appear that this trend may yet continue with other 80s acts.....
