Birmingham City have just bought Luciano Figueroa.
Does anyone know much about him apart from the fact that he played for Rosario Central and scored 17 goals last season.
He cost £2.5 - which does sound cheap for an Argentinian International.

my opinion: the guy is one of the 2 or 3 more important forwards in argentinian football. his statistics are simply scary: 0.79 goals per game! i wonder if there´re so many players in the world with such numbers. and all this made in a second line team as Rosario Central. not an easy job. see:
Rosario Central (aka. Central) is the most popular team of the 2nd largest city in Argentina (Rosario). it´s the 7th team with more championships (4) and the 6th with more supporters (behind Boca Juniors, River Plate, Independiente, Racing Club and San Lorenzo). it´s perhaps the most important team outside Buenos Aires. but they never usually fight for championships. it´s a middle-of-the-table team. also it was close to go to the 2nd division last year.
if you understood that you´ll understand how difficult is for a player to made so many goals in a team as Rosario Central.
he´s not really international. he was called 2 times for the national team but never played. but this has an explanation. Marcelo Bielsa (the coach) has a strong feeling for Rosario Central´s rival in Rosario city: Newell´s Old Boys. he usually picks players that played or play in Newell´s and not in Central.
as for the money 4 million dollars is a good number. especially having in mind the huge devaluation Argentina had the last year. a peso used to be equal as the dollar. nowadays 1 dollar costs 2,80 pesos. so we have to think it´s been sold for about 11 million pesos which is pretty good. besides he´s not going to a first class team (with all my respect) who could pay more money. the best players of the last season were sold for about 9 million dollars (D´Alessandro and Tevez) to both germans Wolfsbourg and Bayern München. germans are the only ones who could pay so much money for a new "promise" player.
believe me. you bought a great player. give him a little time and he will be making a lot of goals for you.
