I'm really upset right now...

I just stopped in to my mom's house to gab a bit before work and also see my adorable little furry friend, the dog that was supposed to be for my brother and sister but got attached to me, because I figured he'd need walking and, well.........he's not here.

The past week or so, my mom had been broaching the subject of giving the dog to another family or old lady or something, as he didn't get walked enough (what with school for my sibs and work for her, plus my lazy, good-for-nothing-and-a-racist-to-boot stepdad). I would have taken him myself, up to my abode with the grams, but my grandma didn't want a pet in the house, unless I agreed to move to the little basement compartment downstairs. The last time I checked, said "apartment" was littered with shit (my gran's a packrat) and a moldy couch which didn't seem like it'd be moved anywhere. I tried to get her to agree to letting the dog stay upstairs with me, but no go.

So one of three things has occured:

1. My mom or lazy-ass stepdad has taken the dog (craftily waiting until I was nowhere near to raise any protest) and he is at this moment in some strange house with one or more strange people.

2. They could very well have taken him to my house, but as my stepdad is not given to acts of kindness and never really liked the dog, plus the aforementioned "no pets" policy of Grandma, this is highly unlikely.

3. What I'm desperately hoping is the case: they took him to the vet for some reason, and he will be returning (fingers crossed, but I doubt it)

So anyway, I'm quite upset about this occurance, coming as it does at the end of a decent first day at Tech (I got a lousy spot to park at early on, but I left to get gas and was able to score a much closer spot on my return). Plus, I have a crazy idea, one which I would've shared with you all today if I hadn't come by mother's to discover my dog nowhere to be found. Nonetheless, I have to work tonight, so maybe tonight I'll go to the local Mexican restaurant next door and get a cold one to ease my angst. Jeez, this really really really really really really really sucks, guys......

Did the dog survive after he had bit you ? :(

That's like giving away a family member, if that's what they did. Sorry about that. Hope it works out. Maybe you can get the dog from whomever they gave it to?

Even the cold, steel, robot mechanism that functions where my human heart would normally beat (I'm a conservative Republican, after all) is moved by this story.

There are good dogs and bad dogs and some deserve to die just like some humans should die. But as a species they are good. I would not live without one. A cat will sit by and lick it's arse when your house gets robbed and your children get killed and raped. At least my dog will put up a most gallant defense. I have had my share of "bad dog" incidents but I never consider killing my own dog because of it. Its dog owners that cause dogs to go bad.

I also hunt feral dogs that attack my father-inlaw's cattle during the winter. It really pisses me off when people dump off their dogs and pups in the country to let them live on their own. I'd much rather shoot them than the now "wild" dogs that attack livestock.

Since you love 'em though Tabsy, very sorry to hear to hear your story... :( The same thing happened to me. I was ten years old and living in country New South Wales. I was walking home from school when a german shepherd and two labradors started chasing me down the street. I dropped my bag and started running like hell but the dogs soon caught up to me and the german shepherd bit me on the bum. When i got home, my mum called the police. The two policemen asked me to take them to the house where the dogs lived, which i did, and then they shot dead the three dogs right in front of me. For me, seeing those coppers shoot the dogs was more truamatic than being bitten on the arse. Coppers can't stand the fuckers.......

I don't have an update as yet, but I will say that after a little sobbing in my room (don't tell anyone, it'll ruin my manly, "Grizzly Adams"-like reputation), I went to work and just did my thing, stocking the frozen bowels of the multi-state corporation I slave for (in other words, stocking the frozen food section of W-D) and carried on. I'd like to think it was my mother who took him someplace, because I know she'd pick somebody decent. If it was my stepdad, well...at any rate, I plan on popping by sometime this afternoon (I'm stuck here at Tech until about 2, and I've only got two classes. Someone helpe me figure out why I ended up with a two-hour break! ).

Anyway, thanks for the support. As long as my dog's in a good, caring home, I'll be alright. :)

we got a kitty when i was 10 and my mom hated it. lucky hated her too. lucky was the cutest cat in the world. to cut short a long story, one day i came home from school and lucky was not there. to this day 14 years later my mom still womt tell me what ever happened to lucky. rumor is that she gave it to a cat shelter but i found out that my cousin who hated cats was with her that day and they may have let him loose on the streets far away. i hope my mom isnt that cruel. it still bothers me today, i lost a friend. the dishonesty kills me when i think about it. i miss lucky and hope he went to a better family. i hope you find out where your pup is and get him/her back. not that i ate cats, but that was one of the reasons i became a vegetarian. love for animals and hatred for people who abuse and hate animals. good luck and we will be here if you need us :)

ps--->my mom also threw my turtle into the chicago river when i was 13. she said it was because i never cleaned his tank and it smelled like shit. altough thats true, trigger didnt seem to mind. and lucky wasnt that lucky to be living with my mom.

Well, a bittersweet update, of sorts: The dog is indeed gone, to live with a woman my mother knows who has a lot of time and love to give to an adorable little poodle like mine. So as long as he does alright there, I'll carry on. And I'm not mad at my family or anything.

Funnily enough, my mom also confessed that, in the months he had been here, the dog had grown on her too, and that she couldn't bare to tell it "bye". My brother and sister, ostenably who the dog was for, never really cared for him (they're not heartless....I think but my sister recently lost her cat and my brother's too busy with this "outdoor", "extreme" sports stuff). At any rate, I'll miss the little stinker...

Well, I'm glad your mom found a home for the dog the responsible way. No offense to anybody's families, but I can't stand people who dump an animal to fend for itself. They oughta be shot. End of story.

I agree with you Richard, having a pet is a responsibility (it's like looking after a child that will never grow up) not just a luxury. If you can't handle the responsibility don't get one (get a PS2 or something similer that needs little care).

my friends dog went missing. her coked up bf hated it. can't see why cos he was a lovely little fella with wiskers. anyway while she was away for two days the dog disappeared. word was he took it somewhere and bashed it over the head

but he probably sold it to the local chinese for a fiver as theres lots of them around her area who are always glad for some cheap meat.

So the people across the street have their children and grandchildren visiting for the holiday weekend or vacation. They brought two dogs with them and tied them up outside. One has barked for 24 hours straight. My wife, who hates me for bringing a gun into the house, said that she was about to get said rifle and send that dog a 8mm love letter.

which is exactly why I would never get a dog. Although I prefer cats to dogs, I hate to see any suffering or dogs being mistreated and I've recently seen it first hand. My next door neighbour has been neglecting her dog (since she's got a new guy who doesn't like the poor mut) to the extent of leaving him on his own while she buggers off for the weekend! She's done this a few times, knowing full well that we have a key and would take pity on the dog (which we did, of course). However, after the third weekend I've told her that I won't do it anymore and I'll phone the (dutch equivalent to) RSPCA the next time. The problem I have with that is that I don't know what'll happen to the dog then. She'll probably be glad to get rid off it, but will the dog be better off? Basically I couldn't care less about her but I do care about the dog.

I agree now, but that line of thinking didn't enter my little brain back then, just trying to recover from the shock Since then, I've figured out that was indeed more of a bad owner situation, but that was one reason I never wanted to be a mailman. :) I just keep my distance from 'em.

On the intelligence of cats vs dogs I can only say one thing: have you ever seen 6 cats dragging a sled through the snow?

NP, m8. Back when I was a kid, German shepards were the bad ass dog to be feared. Now every crackhead, methLord and scum bag, as well as good people and the nascar set, own Rottweilers. If you raise them wrong, bad things happen. Once again, the owner. Sometimes dogs are just bad, just like people are bad.

Never show fear to a dog, its a signal to them that you are in the wrong. But a small kid can only do so much when fgaced with 100 lb of angry canine.

Just thought of this this morning. Sofie, my parents Golden Retriever, walked to the ambulance as they took my father's body away after he died of cancer. Loyal to the bitter end. Then again, a year or so later, she got loose one time and killed the neighbors little Yorkie.:o
