I think you're right about that. However, his main line of questioning to the woman ( a teacher) was why she presented no alternative view to her pupils. As an employee of the State, it would seem reasonable that both sides of an argument be presented.

Examples of this NOT happening were the decidedly slanted "teach-ins" at public schools that took place in California at the beginning of the war. (Again, at taxpayer expense.)

I think you're right about that. However, his main line of questioning to the woman ( a teacher) was why she presented no alternative view to her pupils. As an employee of the State, it would seem reasonable that both sides of an argument be presented.

I think he beat it over her head, and does on constant occasions, that he used to be a schoolteacher, and that he would've tried to present both sides. Considering how he treats the majority of "leftist" pundits who come on his show, I wonder about that, but he did have a point in that regard. Nevermind that the kids are probably inaudated with "pro-war" talk from the media...

Is it just me (not to get off a tangent) or are the "liberals" that Fox News have on the air (Allan Colmes, Juan Williams) sort of "token" representatives? That show "Hannity and Colmes" should be retitled "Hannity and Wet Noodle" for all the times Hannity (about the most narrow-minded jackass to slide down his momma's crack and slip on the floor--Full Metal Jacket reference) just dominates the hour. I hadn't really been keeping up with the "horror show" because of my shitty cable being all static-ey on the last couple of channels (including FNC), but last night I was chilling in the den and watching a little. First guest: Ollie North. Yes, ladies and gentleman, "Shredder Ollie" was on there, pimping some novel (funny how some of the big figures in poltical scandels go on to write novels. makes you wonder). I turned it at that point. Anyway, don't want to go off a tangent...

Anyone who thinks Bill O'Reilly is a conservative Republican needs to put down the crack pipe and turn off the TV for a while.

Since the NOOL off-topic forum is the leading source for political commentary today, I'm sure that New Order fans around the world are dying to hear who are the two queens in my GOP most wanted card deck: Sen. Arlen Specter and Sen. Lincoln Chaffee.

Armed with a repertoire that includes such timeless hits as "We Are Safer" and "Our Liberties Are More Secure" the attorney general set out on a four-week 18-city jaunt that will take him from the heartland to the East Coast. That may not exactly be a Bruce Springsteen pace, but it's not bad for someone who isn't running for office or even a member of the Rolling Stones. Mr. Ashcroft's motivation rather is the defense and furthering of the Patriot Act.

The Patriot Act pre-existed the Al Quaeda attack in New York. It was a law enforcement wet dream that never went anywhere because it was a blatant assault on our civil liberties. After 9/11, it sailed through because Congress (yes, both sides of the aisle) panicked instead of thinking. Terrorism was already a crime. Law enforcement already had the tools to investigate terrorism-- and they still managed to ignore the threat. Law-breaking Americans- not Islamic terrorist- are the real targets of the Patriot Act. And the so-called Victory Act shows where law enforcement is setting its sights.

By the way, while I might have my disagreements with how the "war on drugs" is being waged, I don't use drugs, and I don't condone their use; too many people's lives have been ruined. However, making drug-use a "terrorist" act under the law is going WAY too far-- labeling anybody that law enforcement wants to investigate a "terrorist" so that civil liberties can be dispensed with is not only one more step towards a fascist police state, it is also an offensive mockery of the very real victims of actual terrorism.

Tell me about it, my goddamn government teacher last year spewed the most liberal crap as the war was starting; he only expressed the liberal side of the story w/o presenting another side, but no one really cared since most of his AP kids disagreed with him anyways. He looked like a troll with his hunch back, nasty long grey hair in a pony tail, and he rode a bicycle to school; worst of all he wore a Green party shirt very often.

Hmmm...the USA Patriot Act was introduced to the House October 23, 2001, by Representative Jim Sensenbrenner of Wisconsin. I forget...is it in leap years that October comes before September?
