Tim.
Sometime last year there was the unknown cdr about from ATR titled ("live Oz/Nz"). I know you thought it was an American gig from 1985 (Austin?) Can you confirm if this was that gig? Thanks in advance.

We can't confirm it, but it is likely, from the performance of As It Is, that this was Atlanta Fox Theatre 11 Aug 85.
However, it could be from Australia or New Zealand, or anywhere else in the world, after all.
As It Is had reached a certain stage of development by May 85 and the Aus/NZ dates, and this version on this recording is more advanced, nearer the final version, it also includes a vocal line that was used in the US 85 gigs.
The bass on the Japan/Aus/NZ dates had a particular sound, as though they weren't using the usual equipment. This bass sound was back to normal for the US dates, and the bass on this recording is the same sound as those US ones.
The first bass chord on Chosen Time is the same as Hooky played at New Orleans 12 Aug 85, and is different to any other live versions.
The set-list (from an era where they were playing a different set every night and 20 different songs over 3 nights) fits into the mid-August 85 slot far better than it does the May 85 slot. The set is very similar to Osaka.
But,
One thing that is certain though is that it is possibly the worst ever performance, down there with LA Florentine Gardens and Brixton Academy 83 in the pits of gigsville. Every song is screwed up, and Chosen Time has to be heard to be disbelieved !

Yes, you're not worthy ![]()
No, I'm not the guru though, I'm just an ordinary bloke with a few tapes and a photographic memory. Some people on here take it very seriously indeed, far too much so !

After some careful analysis, I've concluded that it's all in English. The Atlanta hypothesis is looking better and better...and this removes the one argument against it.
You'll hear some bloke calling out for Transmission and some bird swearing (Barney even tells her to stop at one point) and some other chatter which sounds fairly American to me.
I've amalgamated all the parts where you can distinctly hear audience chatter, turned the levels way up (meaning I had to chop off anything which redlines, this includes any music and Barney's comments) and stuck it here:

I can't pin any real regional accents down, but it's definitely an American crowd...

Yeah, it's particularly awful, and what's weirder, is that if you believe it's indeed 11 AUG 85, the gigs they played before and after were really good, IIRC.

This is serious all for a good cause though. And I have fun doing it, call me ![]()

Sam, the link doesn't work !
I wasn't having a go at you by the way, you're doing what I would do if I had the time ! It was more about the completist and the list obsessives.....

Oops, made an error in it, sorry. Should be correct now.

I'm still a blasted trainspotter, though...one day I'll get too close and get run over by one. But thx for the kind words regardless...but what do you mean by a 'list obsessive'...not those who poll about stuff?

For what its worth, the following is an excerpt of an e-mail I received from someone who lives near Atlanta and attended the Atlanta '85 gig.
"...i certainly can't confirm or deny it, i've looked for a tape of that show, but never found one. don't recall the set list exactly, but do remember they played most of the songs you listed below. so it probably is atlanta. i do remember it was a very sloppy show, so that fits with your rating also..."

Do they recall where this gig was? Fox Theater? Now that I've heard it, it's definitely an American audience from the accents and reactions and I think Atlanta's the most likely spot personally for the reasons Tim mentioned above and in our earlier thread. Nice work everyone![]()

The individual who went to this show and provided the above info has confirmed that the gig was at the Fox Theatre. He is attempting to locate his ticket stub from the gig.
