Hi - My husband has disc 2 of New Order Substance 1987 (Qwest Records). When you play it, out comes the songs from Disc 2 of Neil Young/Decade. Both were manufactured and distributed by Warner Brothers, so I can only assume there was a mix up at the factory. I can't seem to find anything online about this having been a mass-produced mistake. Any knowledge of this happening to others? Is there any value to this CD? He figures he bought it right when it came out, new in New Jersey.

I happen to have a copy of said disc 2. Can't say I noticed anything wrong or different with it.

My disc two is fine as well. These things do sometimes happen at pressing plants - difficult to put a financial value on them though - nobody actually wants a CD that has the wrong stuff on it, do they?

I assume the label says disc 2 of Substance? Definitely a pressing plant mistake then, though it's not the first time that I've heard of somewhat similar problems with US Warners. They also distribute Elektra, and I bought a vinyl copy of Stereolab's Emperor Tomato Ketchup a couple of years ago; inside was a single by fellow Elektra artist Missy Elliott.

Yes, it is hard to put a price on this. There are always completists that would be interested in such an item - you could try the other site who has a webmaster that may be interested.

Other (perhaps more) interesting misspressings include:

  • The portuguese vinyl of Movement where part Denial ended up on the A-side.
  • The misspressed Joy Division 12" with Love Will Tear Us Apart on one side and Blue Monday on the other.
  • The extremely rare 7" with Hurt on one side and Depeche Mode's Oberkorn on the other.
