UK Festivals: Glastonbury, T In The Park, V Festival - NOOLers Base Camp Thread

.. .. could we please have a 'sticky' thread at the top of this page so that all us Brits can ask (a) who's going, and (b) where we're gonna be based?

And then five days later all making our excuses as to why we won't actually be attending any of the said events. Citing hot weather, weddings, lack of funds, whatever.

What's good enough for the goose, is good enough for the gander!

I agree. But who has confirmed glastonbury?

Up for V in Staffs, but if they are on a different night to oasis/killers/scissor sisters/anyone half decent then i'll stay for the two days.

Hopefully, they will play the second stage at the same time as the D*rkness, so under no circumstances will i see the scumbags.

BTW, is any of this actually confirmed, or just specualtion or educated guesses?

I`ll happily go V,so stick me on the list. Although the chances of Glasto tiks is fuckin nil! The more festivals they do the less likely of a tour so its all aboard!

Glastonbury is a definite non starter but I will be at V, both sites if they are. Question is then, where to stay?

Jim, let us know when things are more concrete. Couldn't make Glastonbury even if I wanted to. Looking at being in England in April if there are gigs V thingy also strong possibility. Believe I owe belated birthday greetings to your household, I'll call soon when there is some Order bollocks to witter about.

This is the problem innit? Wish we could find out which night they are on which one, Chelmsford is all back to mine (if someone's got a motor) but Weston Park is a bit of a headache. M6/M54 service station Travelodge probably!

For V these days you will have to have a weekend ticket to gain acess to the campsite.

just a thought, if a load of people are doing both, would it not make sense to hire a bus of some description, and a maybe a driver, split the cost and go from there? Surely it wouldnt be that expensive. might work out cheaper than the train in fact, as well as the to-ing and fro-ing from the sites?

Cheers John, will book tickets on spec and then let you know.

I don't see a coach being an option as you've got people from different places making the trek. If moving between the two sites the best solution would be by car, we'll just have to fill seats nearer the time.

Tim's right though, we need to know which date they are doing at each site (if they are doing both sites) and then we can either stay close to the first site and travel the following morning or make a couple of hours in-roads into the journey and then stop somewhere. Either way if a hotel is needed it would be entertaining to all book the same place. Can you get discount for group bookings?

I was being facetious! ;)

However, I will obviously be attending all three gigs, should they be confirmed. Tickets pending.

NME.COM already told you, now MICHAEL EAVIS has confirmed several acts for this years GLASTONBURY FESTIVAL.

The festival chief told the Wells Journal that Kylie will be playing the Pyramid Stage on Sunday night (June 26) at this year’s bash, plus named several other stars playing.

"Those people who might come along on Sunday to see Kylie Minogue might not enjoy New Order or the White Stripes, so we have something for everyone," Eavis told the paper.

As it stands, I have no intention of going. Though more US dates might swing it for me. Which is why I'm hoping they don't do more US dates.

Surely the Cocteaus have gotta do something over here as well? A little warm-up. How's poor little Lizzie gonna cope in that California heat?!

I dont khow if the wristband's are the same colour for both sites, proper ticket's are about £90 for the weekend, i think they are about £50 for a single day, they are different for both sites..

Mick, the thing u have to look out for is that the ticket's are made of about 3 or 4 layers of paper, the proper ticket's have a differnt coloured paper in the middle..

:thumb:great news!! Will try and be there for the first V-day. Any chance of some small venue gigs, like brixton academy? Still believe they should be headlining any festival they play though!

For V:I think the minibus idea sounds good. As an Irish non-driver, the options to leg it between both sites are pretty slim, and I really would like to see NewOrder play back to back.

Any other suggestions?

I am up for all of them.

Can someone who is on the ball let us know when and how we can book tickets? :) Never done a festival in my life!

Another weird one, but I believe you'll have a full Jetstream at V...

V Festival - to be held over the weekend of Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st August, and held at Hylands Park, Chelmsford and at Weston Park, Staffordshire - has confirmed its first act.

The first act confirmed for this year is Scissor Sisters, who are to be one of the headliners. They'll play at Weston Park (Staffordshire) on the Saturday, and Hylands Park (Chelmsford) on the Sunday.

Although this might seem a strange choice, Scissor Sisters had the biggest selling album last year, and their show at V last year was voted gig of the year by the listeners of Virgin Radio. Even those who aren't huge fans of their music can't fail to be impressed by their live performances.

More acts will be announced over the coming weeks - they'll be over 80 bands playing.

I wouldn't take this as confirmation, this is just the BBC picking up on Michael Eavis's quote from last week. Nothing has been confirmed on the Glastonbury website yet, so it is still a strong rumour.

As for V, the promotional e-mail was sent out today and confirmed the presence of Scissor Sisters, but there was no mention of New Order at all. They didn't announce the bill though.

We'll just have to wait a few days longer.

You could always ask the management Spotnick!

I bet they will clash with SYSTEM 7, shite, I will have to miss Nu Ordah, hope they Don't clashhhhhhhhhhhhhh

They wont. From what you told me, i gather that steve hillage plays the last slot on sunday night all the time?

Seems as though the order wont be headlining, but in the graveyard slot before kylie. Dont see why eavis doesnt book them as other stage headliners!!!!

On an off-topic subject, System 7 have just made some of their vinyl-only tracks available as paid downloadable MP3's via their official website - must get round to getting some of these! :)

Will probably go to V at either (or both!) Chelmsford or Stafford, but I do hope that they play an actual venue rather than just festivals...

l8rs,

Nick ;)

A suggestion for NOOL basecamp for v-stafford is beside the outdoor skateboarding ramp, lot's of room for all the NOOLERS and is not far from the main V Stage as well...

I'd heard they were doing the Saturday, and not the Kylie support slot on Sunday. I take it Coldplay is the Saturday then?

Coldplay are on the saturday which ties in with what we've been told Al.

V Festival - this is not confirmed.

Just the Daily Star acting on rumours and printing it as fact. But it might happen, you never know ;-)

I'll be at Glastonbury for the first time in 18 years, if I can get tickets. Don't really want to go for the whole time, but looks like I'll have to.... happy to meet up with everyone!

hi Mark, yeah i may be up for the states if they do some more gigs in a few cities. I will speak to gordy at the weekend, if it only the desert one i wont bother, i hope they play in spain or france this summer. i dont really fancy only being able to buy, one beer person and showing my passport at the bar everytime, but yeah we did meet a couple of nice americans in the end if we tried hard. everything was awesome and triple a i recall no real depth or soul

Count me and Feline in for V at Chelmsford :) . Of course we have to make some arrangments first, since we ll have to travel by plane, stay at some hostel etc etc, (we ll be naturally based in London) - but i think they will all be set at least by April. I ve been to Chelmsford before in 2003, so i know the way and the details, but if anyone can help us to get back to our hostel from the Liverpool street train station we WILL be gratefull (for some reason in 2003 there werent any taxis waiting for us - LOL). Anyways, we ll keep in touch, hope to meet and see u guys there :thumb: .
