Chicago v. New York

After reading some of the reviews from the NY show, I am starting to think that the Chicago show was far superior than the NY show in terms of the sound, band chemistry, and song selection.

I, of course, was not at both gigs, but would love to hear from people that were at both and get their comparisons.

BTW, The Chicago show was the best concert I ever attended in my entire life. I saw NO in 93, but that show was disappointing...this gig blew me away!

The highlight of the night was when the crowd was all singing, "Dance, Dance, Dance, Dance to the Radio!!!"

I agree, it was the best concert I have been too, and that's a lot of them. Better than 1989 with PIL and the Sugarcubes. I didn't care for the Assasins yelling Bush Sucks at the end of a song, they aren't Green Day. leave that garbage at home.

Could not hear Barney sing during Love Vigilantes in NYC. All I heard was the audience overpowering him. Not cheering and applauding. Singing. It must have been awesome to attend both shows.

The above poster is 100% right, that doesnt make much sense cuz the song selection was not so drastically different at either venue that it would warrant saying that one was superior to the other.

I really hope they don't release the NY footage for their DVD release, especially with all the people discussing how "glitchy" the concert was...I would rather not own a dvd with Barney making lots of technical, musical, and lyrical mistakes...but, perhaps that is what people like; the raw nature of concert footage, which can be interesting in and of itself...I, personally, would like a re-do before making a final decision about that gig being released to dvd. (If I were a member of the band.)

I thought the sound was "pretty good" at the Aragon. I have heard a lot about how it sucks there, but it sounded fine to me. I don't think it was perfect either, but at least I didn't hear the crowd over-powering Barney's singing.

From the looks of it...the Chicago show was far better. Barney didn't fall at that show either...there were moments where I thought he would tumble though....

Song selection wise, I think the neworder fanbase appreciates them playing "Your Silent Face" over "She's lost Control", especially since they played LWTUA and Transmission....The crowd's reaction to YSF was amazing at the Chicago gig...just incredible.

I agree. I thought it was an incredible show - I personally liked the little glitches and flaws and think the show would translate well into a DVD!

Want to echo this by saying that the highlight of the evening was hearing Your Silent Face. The night, the venue, the lights, the ambience, the song, the bass............. I was lost, enchanted. Might sound like a load of bollocks but it's true. Being able to listen to the recording of the show now is a real trip. So not trying to tell anyone that any one song is better than another. I was just blown away that they played YSF, totally unexpected and thoroughly enjoyed.

NEW YORK! but i wasnt in chicago. i though they were great despite a few Mistakes(hey thats is their trademark isnt it?) best moment was after they finished Regret Barney Yelled "Black Power!", Classic! i thought i was going to have a panic attack when they started with LOVE Vigilantes

plus we got to meet a bunch of New Order Fans from all over the World, it was great to meet nick from Mont. Que. Al Jarvis, Mark and Gary from England (they loved my Argentina Shirt),Tommy(Eckoh)from Jersey, singh from Jersey(i think) and the guy from Iceland. what a night

I think it's cool that a band as big as New Order only did four shows, and we can actually discuss which was better. Most bands do so many towns it would be pointless. I have a hunch both shows were a grand experience, but I bet nerves is what made the Chicago show click more. Having nervous energy can make one perform more top notch. I also think the band could have entered NYC with more confidence which sometimes can backfire. I can think of a few songs I'd rather hear than some of the songs on both setlists. Subculture, Perfect Kiss, any of the lessor known songs on Brotherhood, etc. And of course there are some gems on Technique, although at the time the reaction to the album wasn't as positive as it is now.

There is a cool article about them in this month's Spin. The old photos reminded me how I copied Bernard's haircut in high school, the shaved back. HA! I'm looking forward to the Joy Division movie as well.

I think we should be glad we were smart enough to buy a ticket to either show. BUT I WANT A DARN North American Tour T-Shirt....ANY NEWS ADMIN?

what about Oakland vs. Chicago vs. New York vs. coachella? im sure all had their ups and downs and unless you went to all, its silly to say one was better than the other. i had a great time at the aragon though :)

i still cant believe a week has passed by already :( what a great day last tuesday was... from 4pm-4am, it was a non stop party :)

We were righ in front of Phil and Where hook would come over and Jam. At one point I raised my fist and Phil did the same looking at me while playing the keyboard, it was a moment of zen!
