As New Order now play Joy Division at their gigs, would you like to see some of their side project songs integrated into the set list too?

Personally, I don't see why not, I'm sure it is predominately New Order fans who bought the side project material. I would especially welcome the surprise of Electronic's Get the Message, Forbidden City, or Getting Away with it thrown in at a gig.

I suppose at the moment any different variety of New Order tracks would be something special. New Order have so much scope to thrill their fans live, but seem resolute on playing the same old material:(

Can't see the point, and I'm pretty sure they don't. They are New Order, they were together as Joy Division. They weren't together as Monaco, Electronic, Revenge or any other random incarnation that passed the time between New Order products.

Let's face it, they can't be bothered to play most of the New Order songs we want, they ain't gonna piss about sequencing Bernard's solo egotrip!

I'm with Dave and Tim on this one...

New order was Joy Division, so I can see why they do the JD tunes...

but the side projects, well, I just don't think it would be right...

no until they play thieves like us. There's just too many jd/no songs to chose from. I cant imagine this ever happening, only if they go on a real tour.

I expected a lot of people to say no, but I could imagine some pretty interesting renditions of Electronic songs, at least, with Hooky and Morris involved.

Another point is that many of us saw New Order as something special, above the side projects, but I now believe from the evidence of WFTSC (which could easily have been an Electronic album)and to a lesser extent Get Ready that New Order and Electronic are as good or as bad as Sumner's song writing at the time. In this case, the Electronic albums fill in the gaps in the time line quite neatly between Technique-Republic-Get Ready

Er, which is the point entirely, surely?! Do you really expect New Order to bang out a Getting Away With It or Get The Message and have Hooky come up with an entirely new bass-line to try and fit his style to the song?! And Steve lend his own unique style to the drums?! Give me a Sunrise, Subculture or Dreams Never End over any side project any day.

Yes, I would like to hear it, I think it would be a very interesting experiment.

they have trouble enought getting their own songs tight, nevermind rewritting Electronic, O2, Monaco & Revenge Songs, not to even mention the ego part of it, would sumner sing a monaco Song?, why would hooky want to play electronic songs and what about the Other Two, there is only 1 of them in the band now.

you know what would be interesting? to have them play some older New Order Songs, that would interest me enough

didnt phil have another band, maybe they should play those songs too:sleep:

I suppose Hooky would sing Monaco tracks. My most interest is in hearing Electronic tracks, for the reasons I've already stated above. I would have thought the more inquisitive fans would get my point. But it seems like I'm, well, doing this - :banghead:

By the way New Order do play "older New Order songs" at their gigs - it is just they keep playing the same ones...

To be a fan of New order doesn't necessarily mean you have to be a fan of all side projects though, does it? Inquisitive or not.

No, if you really don't like any side project tracks - true - but if you do, it is intuitive of some listners to wonder what such tracks would be like as New Order (especially those written by Sumner).

Hey D C would you mind changing your username? I know that D C is not strictly the same as DC, but there's room for confusion! And I was here first ;)!!

I do like the side projects, but I know where to draw the line. Can we assume you're a very huge Electronic fan, D C?!

"My most interest is in hearing Electronic tracks"

"(especially those written by Sumner)"

And, as such, using the New Order vehicle is the only true way you're ever likely to hear any of their output ever again ... which, certainly, ain't ever gonna happen!

Try All You Want would've been tops though with a Hooky bassline added to beef it up some more! :thumb:

I'd pretty much would like to ear What Do You Want From Me done by New Order with Bernard doings Pottsy's part ;)

I'd love to have GAWI as well, they can put Tennant on the tape, I don't mind... hehe ;)

Hooky can add a bassline to any song really, that's not a problem ;) even when you think it's impossible, he manages to do it!

If it's possible I'll change it. Perhaps, to the listener formerly known as D C ;)

WDYWFM is, IMHO, the only track from the combined Electronic/Revenge/Monaco output that could be considered good enough to warrant inclusion. Maybe GAWI, squeezes in. TO2 have to be disregarded as Gillian is no longer in the band, shame as some of their tracks e.g. Tasty Fish/Selfish are excellent.

Yes, I would love to hear them play WDYWFM. It's a great track that stands up against NOs best material, which is where all other 'side project' tracks fall down.

The reality is of course, this would never happen - it's not very often I say "never", but in this case I feel pretty confident about it. The whole point of touring is to promote records. Barney/Steve aint gonna promote a track that they get no royalties from but Hooky does and similarly Hooky wouldn't play an Electronic track for the same reason.

But if we're still living this fantasy out and ignoring the commercial aspects which make this a none-runner, then there's loads of old NO tracks I'd like to hear them play again before they consider spending time and energy rehearsing songs that didn't even get played outside the studio by the originating performers.

Is JD more like NO than Electronic these days? Of course not, JD was a very different group to the majority of New Order's ouput, in fact. Hooky, however, maintains that both JD and NO, and all the side projects, are one of the same thing - so he might up for it...

do you think Joy Division means the same to sumner as electronic? or Revenge/Monaco to Hook? thats silly.

That's irrelevant, or I don't understand your point :banghead:

Hrm, would be interesting I suppose. Highly unlikely. Like someone said, what about the Pottsy vox songs? How would Hooky handle the Electronic songs? What's the Other Two (er, Barns and Hooky) going to do when Steve and Gill sing their songs? Would be too much of a mess. Novel idea, sure. But there's already lots of older NO songs that they don't play that they should!
